Hey guys!
I was thinking earlier about an idea for a new thread. The idea was that on a weekly basis (or depending however far apart you guys want) the forum members choose a designated double bill. The idea is that each member who wishes to join the group will be given a designated weekend, they then are able to choose which double is to be watched that weekend. So for example, lets say I have the first Sunday (or what ever day is decided to be the double bill day). I say which double bill everyone who wishes to participate will watch. There will be a set list of rules to decide how a double bill is eligible, in order to keep the double bills interesting. E.G. preventing a six-hour double bill, unrelated films, etc. And the person who’s weekend it is must watch their own double bill before confirming it in order to prevent double bills that don’t work from being selected. The criteria for the double bill thread will have to be agreed on by everyone. I suggest simple rules like: - No new releases (e.g. Blu-Rays that will be hard to rent or will still be expensive to buy) - The films selected must have a theme (e.g. the same director, star, or both of the same genre) - The must be a maximum combined runtime (e.g. something like no-longer than four hours) - No sequels (e.g. no films like The Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers, but sequels that you don’t need to have seen the previous film (e.g. Evil Dead II or Dawn of the Dead) may be selected if other members agree) - No non-UK blu-rays (no imports, e.g. films only available in Region A) Also guys, I'm suggesting Sunday be the official day because it seems the most sensible but other suggestions are welcome! Feedback would be great, lets see if this idea catches on or even if it is wanted! They can put forward their choices at any time, when they do I'll add them to the opening post, but yes - unless another members decides to cancel their weekend, they will be given the 20th week.

Hi,
I'd like to add another addition to your rules, in that double-bills can also be films that are linked, but not necessarily in a blatantly obvious way. As long as whoever suggests the double-bill explains what the "link" or "theme" is, then that should be allowed too. They're are plenty of double-bills you could do, that don't necessarily seem obvious as to their links. Examples, could include: KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE and THE CAT RETURNS (both feature cats as main characters, as well as being Studio Ghibli films) RIPLEY'S GAME and PLEIN SOLEIL (both are based on Patricia Highsmith novels, but hardly anyone remembers either of the films. Everyone only seems to remember THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY!) RUNAWAY TRAIN and AMATEUR (and/or THE EEL) (All are Existential action films) DAS EXPERIMENT and THE BAADER-MEINHOF COMPLEX (Two excellent and rarely-seen German dramas based on true-life events) FEMALE TROUBLE and SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT (and/or CHRISTMAS EVIL) (An anti-Christmas double-bill!) THE GIRL NEXT DOOR and THE GIRL NEXT DOOR (Same title, two very, very different films!) Etc, etc. ![]() ![]() Pooch |

![]() A Sunday movie club sounds like a fun idea. Double bill might be a struggle sometimes, finding members with each film in their collection. Anyway, put me down for one of the weeks. |

Two films could promote interesting discussions, if say it was original vs remake, Directors skill compared now with 10 years ago and so on. |

I think that will be an issue,a lot of the weeks surely members won't have both films but at least they're out there for people to consider.

It's an interesting idea, but I think it will be hard to keep up with. Perhaps instead of going for the double bill idea you could have themed seasons with some members picking films to go with the theme.
Also, it could get expensive, perhaps trying to tie seasons or themes in with terrestrial TV broadcasts of films could be a good idea... |

How about this....the two films are suggested.
People with both watch them, however if someone doesn't have one of the films they could choose a suitable one from their collection and then let the others know why they chose that film.... ...or why they couldn't be bothered to watch another one ![]() |

Though that would require an attempt at trying to time it all too, which could be tricky. Otherwise, I sort of fail to see the point in the idea in all honesty, unless your hoping discussions may be triggered by us all recently watching a selected movie (or two) to be honest, I'm interested ![]() Last edited by yeslek; 08-11-2013 at 09:07 PM. |
