Its not IN another language at all. The movie itself is fully in english. The case has art on BOTH sides so you can have either the french or the english font. I own the film and am a big fan of it. Worth the purchase! Looks and sounds great. I think I got it last year for like 22 bucks shipped.

I liked this movie a lot and have been waiting for a U.S. release and will continue to wait, I suppose.

I think we need a trilogy, just like the U.K. got!!! Just individual releases instead of a box set. I would buy all 3.
The second one was the worst out of them, but 3 was actually surprisingly entertaining. The first is of course the best overall movie though.
I've been waiting for a LONG time now for this to hit Blu-Ray...

Who knows when it will get released in the U.S. If you're a fan and want it now, go for the Canadian release.

Is the Director's Cut available anywhere? I wouldn't mind importing the Trilogy Pack from the UK, but I think it's just the Theatrical Version of the first one, right? I really liked the Director's Cut ending better.

Ok i have to ask, why is everyone so affraid of the "Canadian" releases of BD's? I happen to live in Canada, and obviously buy all my BD in Canada, and not one of them is any different then the American releases. (by that i mean in picture quality and sound) The only real difference is that they often have French options as well as English.
I have seen some people post these BD's that are only released in Canada have lesser picture quality or sound quality, but i have personally gone to my local Best Buy and Future Shop and checked these disks after seeing those posts and they are in fact all in full HD and have the correct aspect and sound.
So anyway why is everyone so worried?

Because:

They are afraid of 1080i presentations which don't affect the quality greatly and in fact, its really hard to tell the difference between a 1080i and 1080p on a lot of televisions.

They are afraid of modified aspect ratios which is very rare. On top of that, the difference between 1.78 and 1.85 is miniscule. Further, some displays have overscan so the difference won't even be noticed.

In the end though, it comes down to not doing research and just assuming that every Canadian release is poorly produced.

these are the real reasons...

OAR - you dont always get it with Alliance releases. Sure, there is not much difference between 1.78 and 1.85 but what about 2.4? Alliance commonly crops 2.4:1 films

Old masters/transfers. Alliance commonly uses masters/transfers that were made for HD TV and NOT blu-ray. PQ is often not as good as a future USA release would be. eg, both Sin City & Requiem for a Dream are said to have better transfers for the USA versions. This is why some of Alliance releases are 1080i (they were ment for HD-TV broadcast)

No extras. Alliance releases are barebones!

French writing on the covers.

Also, 1080i is pretty used for this reason as well.

Sin City was re-released by Alliance and is the same as the US release with extras.

Outlander and A Hard Day's Night both have extras as well.

I was refering to the original Sin City release by Alliance, which is more applicable to the topic at hand (Butterfly Effect) since it was out before the USA release.
I also stated that MOST (not all) Alliance releases are barebones (the ones released without a USA couterpart)

Well i have yet to see a Blu-ray that was only 1080i, and i have personally checked a few of the ones that i heard on this site were only 1080i and on the back of the case it read 1080p... and as far as extras go... what are you buying a movie for? extras or the movie? Extras are cool and all but i dont buy a crap movie cause it has cool extras, so why would you not buy a good movie just cause it lacks extras?

Alliance is very inconsistant with what they put on the back covers regarding the blu-ray specs. Just because it says 1080p on the back cover doesnt really mean it is.
Some 1080i titles include: Good Will Hunting, Seven and Traffic
As for the special feature, I agree with you. I very rarely watch them... but some people do, and for that reason, they stay away

There is a new standalone Butterfly Effect release that just came out (1st March) in Australia and has extras, I was trying to create a new thread, but it appears I can't do so yet, so posting here to let everyone know...

The fact is when you open yourself up to imports, and start comparing specs and masters and everything else you realize different area's really do get different quality. Now of course it is usually nothing too extreme, but i think most here, especially those that have been into blu for sometime now, want the BEST possible version of a movie.

I think why canadian releases are sometimes talked down about was explained fully above by BLUcanadian. Be a smart shopper and don't limit yourself to local releases on movies you truly love, you could be amazed at what another regions version may contain, and not just talking extra's but PQ and AQ as well.

There are a couple of threads on this subject. Another one is located here:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...t-blu-ray.html

Mods any way we could get these merged?

The answer to your questions appears to be yes. The Director's Cut seems to have become available in Australia as of March 1st 2010. I don't know anything about the region coding but I inquired about it on the aforementioned thread.
