Default PS3 IR Remote Solution

Just thought I'd share since I couldn't find much information on this after doing a forum search.

I know many out there really love the bluetooth capabilites of the PS3, but for me I was looking for an IR solution so that I could program the PS3 controller functions into my universal remote for use when watching movies. I picked up the Nyko BluWave IR remote ($14.99 @ newegg) and I was successfully able to program all the PS3 functions into my universal remote (it also makes my wife happy having no remote clutter ).

The BluWave remote comes with an IR receiver that plugs into an available usb port on the PS3 (looks like a thumbdrive). It works like a charm for the most part, but the only drawback is you can't power up the PS3 with the remote since there's no power to the USB port when the PS3 is off (I doubt the function would exist anyway over USB for this reason). The solution is to keep a PS3 controller on the coffee table , but that wouldn't matter to me anyway since I rarely keep discs in the PS3 when off and would have to go to it and insert a movie anyway. I'm happy now - the PS3 finally feels like an official member of my HT equipment.
