Default A Hidden Life (2019)

Quote:
With Knight of Cups arriving on Blu-ray this week, his Austin-set drama Weightless finally completed, and his long-gestating Voyage of Time set for an IMAX release this October, director Terrence Malick seems to be taking no breaks as he’s already looking towards his next project. Today brings news of what it’ll be, and it’ll find him heading to Europe.

He’ll next be directing Radegund, which will depict the life of Austria’s Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector during World War II who was put to death at the age of 36 for undermining military actions. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI declared Jägerstätter a martyr and he was beatified in a ceremony. Set to play Jägerstätter is August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds, The Counterfeiters) while Valerie Pachner will also join.

First announced via Medienboard Förderzusagen’s posting that they are giving 400,000 Euros to the project, a number of German news sources followed up that it will be Malick’s next film. The drama is set to shoot at Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam, Germany, although knowing Malick, it won’t be the only location.

The film will find Malick returning to the World War II era following The Thin Red Line, but of course taking on what looks to be a smaller scope. As for the title, Radegund, it refers to the Thuringian princess and Frankish queen from the 6th century who found protection under the Church after fleeing her marriage when her husband had her brother murdered.

Don't care what this films about. It's a new Malick, count me in.

Now to give Weightless a release date. In my mind I think it will be at Cannes next year. Seems perfect for it.

Weightless has already been rated by the BBFC over here, there's some rumour that it may be making some form of appearance at Glastonbury this weekend but I don't think anything solid has ended up coming out, so I guess that's not true.

Im sure the film will have long, drawn out shots and very little in the way of plot or story-telling.

So, the Austin, TX-set drama surrounding the music scene is now called "Weightless"? This is news to me, been waiting for this one for a long time. Hope he finally got permission to use "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" for when Gosling sits at a piano and plays/sings it for Rooney Mara.

Radegund sounds like it might have an actual plot, which would automatically make it one of Malick's better films.

Terrence Malick’s WWII Drama ‘Radegund’ to Get 2018 Release

https://thefilmstage.com/news/terren...-2018-release/

With technically three films premiering and/or getting a theatrical release this year, Terrence Malick‘s output is at an all-time high and it looks like more films from the elusive director will be rolled out in the consecutive years to come. His Austin-set drama Weightless is eying a release in the first half of 2017 and now we know the vague timing of when we’ll see his World War II drama Radegund.

Buried in a profile from THR (with a hat tip to Dark Horizons) on producer Philip Lee it’s revealed the film will debut in 2018, which is fairly in line with Malick’s standards — and even a bit early compared to some of his production timetables. His drama depicts the life of Austria’s Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl), a conscientious objector during World War II who was put to death at the age of 36 for undermining military actions. Also starring Valerie Pachner and Ulrich Matthes, there’s been rumors that Bruno Ganz, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jürgen Prochnow are part of the ensemble, but those have yet to be confirmed.

As we prepare for the wait, to get a sense of the style we might expect, see our excerpt from Malick’s recent public appearance:
While the director has enjoyed the freedom that comes from this mode of production, he claims to be gravitating back toward working with clear scripts and pre-planned productions. (He recently finished shooting his WWII drama, Radegund, in Europe.) Malick does not see this as an imposition on his creativity, but, in fact, a better enabling factor: it is easier and more productive to go off the rails, he says, when rails are in place to begin with.

It Might Get A Fall Festival Premiere

Am I missing something or did The Playlist write that whole story based on this unsubstantiated little paragraph from The Independent:

Quote:
Despite the excision, he seems delighted with the film (Kursk), which – like Radegund – is likely to premiere at Venice and/or Toronto during the autumn. “I think it will be such a powerful movie,” he says.

You are missing nothing, One Big Soul agrees with you, they posted a rant.

They had already relayed the interview for some days and had not given any importance to the line.

Still waiting for Malick's real time movie about a tumbleweed that blows from one coast to the other. The 45 hour shot of it being stuck in a rain drain in some small town in Kansas is going to look beautiful.

Given that Terrence Malick has shown himself capable of creating a film masterpiece, I'd watch.

Maybe you should you should stick to your "Hey everyone look at me I don't like Christopher Nolan" lane. I think you'll be able to bait people more easily there.
