Default Helping your parents understand & like Blu-ray

I talked my parents into selling there old tv and buying a 55" samsung lcd from bestbuy...and getting a nice stand to go with it...they have alot of money they just are content with what they got but hey i try to help..

i got them verizon phones last christmas...it was there first cell phones and they love them now..which they never would get them before lol..

i bought them a blu-ray player but they only buy dvds...

and my dad wont get hd on his tv says its a waste....i have hd dvr on mine and he comes over and he likes it and says he likes the way it looks..

Well i went over there yesterday...and they had avatar...ON DVD!!!!! and paid 16.99 for it...well i took it without them knowing...NO receipt back to meijer...and meijer was cool they let me swap the dvd of avatar for the dvd/blu-ray combo that was just 3 dollars more!!!!!

i thought that was cool..most stores are like receipt or nothing...But when my dad gets home he will see blu-ray/dvd combo

Maybe watching avatar on blu will change there minds....oh well i tried...anyone else try to get there folks into it?

I let my dad watch Master and Commander awhile back. Now he's counting the days till his big screen goes out so he can buy an LCD. I gave my parents my old HTIB last year. He hooked up the two fronts.

I at least hooked up the center channel for him, still haven't worked up the courage to go crawling through their attic to get the rears set up yet. I'll probably get him a Blu-ray player for Fathers Day this year.

The mom does watch Blu-ray but never really comments on the picture quality.

My dad is now a Blu-ray fanatic. He used to not understand the difference between Blu-ray and DVD, but now he is getting used to the format now that it has gone mainstream.

My parent love technology in general especially my father. He tends to purchase whatever piece of a brand new tech and upgrade it 6 months later. However, when it comes to Bluray to them its a whole different story. They just say they don't have the time.

PS. My dad is hardcore when it comes to HT but all he does is watch the news.

I totally converted my dad into being a fan of high quality home entertainment. I convinced him to get his own home theater system and to upgrade to bluray. He's even got a better HDTV than I do. My mom watches it, but she could care less what the picture really looks like. She still watches VHS and loves it all the same.

When I got my ACL TV my dad got one a few months later, I bought a hd-dvd player and so did my dad, I bought a PS3 and next thing I know my dads just bought one too, I bought a Guitar Hero set and my dad got Rock Band.

Basically I just have to buy something new and my parents will get it pretty soon.

I still watch vhs and love it all the same, some movies will never get a dvd let alone blu ray release but are available on vhs.

That bieng said, i'd prefer if all wear available on blu ray (or even better uncompressed 4k digital files ). You'd never need to get the movie again, hell, 2k lossless or even blu ray is more or less already overkill.

No they didn't!

But they live 200 miles away so they helped me a few time when I ran short or couldn't go to FS on release date.

Yep, I still own and run vhs, as well as dvd. The number of films i've been able to watch which I otherwise couldn't is remarkable.

I got my parents a blu-ray player as a gift last December and they've been using it well. They got a Netflix subscription and do about 50/50 blu-ray vs DVD.

I've still got tons of VHS tapes laying around, just don't have a VHS player that works. They all clunked out on me.

My dad sees the difference but he's not interested in that right now. My mom doesn't care whatsoever.

Same here. Good thing too, as DVDs are easier on my wallet.
