Default Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga

Now on Netflix Jan 22nd

Vampire Diaries boss's new supernatural Netflix show releases full trailer - Digital Spy

Quote:
The Vampire Diaries may no longer be available on Netflix, but new series Fate: The Winx Saga, created by one of its long-serving writers and executive producers, is just days from its premiere.

Brian Young's supernatural drama is a live-action re-imagining of Italian-American cartoon Winx Club, a bright and sparkly animation from the mind of Iginio Straffi.

Taking a grittier and more adult direction, The Winx Saga promises to fill the gap left by Vampire Diaries with its protagonists navigating "love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence".

The new Netflix series follows the coming-of-age journey of five fairies – Bloom, Stella, Aisha, Terra, and Musa – who attend Alfea, a prestigious magical boarding school in the Otherworld.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Abigail Cowen will star as Bloom, alongside Grantchester's Hannah van der Westhuysen as Stella. Precious Mustapha will play Aisha, while Normal People star Eliot Salt is taking on the role of Terra. Last but certainly not least, Elisha Applebaum will star as Musa.

Opening up about The Winx Saga's casting, Young recently explained why his new spin on the existing series was ditching the (literally) cartoonish aesthetic of the original.
Seems to be similar and made to appeal to fans of freeform ShadowHunters series. UK production given language in first episode.

Just finished this. Was better than expected and way better than those trailers made it out to be.

Sure if you wanted a faithful adaption of the cartoon you’ll be disappointed but some things just wouldn’t work in live action.

The last episode of the first season was well done. A few things answered, but left you with the feeling that the plot of s2 could be a lot more diverse as this was just a prequel. Its currently trending in the #1 position on Netflix

Fate: The Winx Saga Brings Animated Winx Club to Life on Netflix — But What's Different? And Who's Missing? - TVLine 1/22/2021

Quote:
Supernatural boarding school? Redheaded heroine? Untrustworthy adults? Yes, Fate: The Winx Saga checks off all the requisite boxes for a Netflix teen drama — along with one fairy important twist.

For the uninitiated, Fate is a live-action adaptation of a popular Italian animated franchise about fighting fairies called Winx Club, which has existed in various forms — including hundreds of episodes, multiple spinoffs and several films — since 2004. Though the characters’ designs and scenarios have undergone multiple changes throughout the years (for better or worse), Netflix’s decidedly adult adaptation marks the most significant departure from the source material to date.

It's kinda a big jolt when last I checked the original show was on Nick Jr only for this to come out with a character dropping two f-bombs one after the other and then get killed by a monster with blood splatter.

I turned it off after 10mins when the main character uses the term "mansplaining" unironically. Yeah, hard pass.

How about no-one helps you and stay in the courtyard looking like a dumbass? Cheers.

Actually the scene is a hybrid it shows images of all the principles as well showing students socializing outside as the main character gets her bearings on arrival. The show was filmed in Ireland and there is some brief crude language initially but not that frequent the rest of the show. I think it has potential but needs another season to make it more attractive as 6 episodes gives one only a little of where it is going. Episode 6 was a cumulation before plot changes at the end.

Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga Renewed for Season 2 - Comicbook.com Feb 18, 2021

Quote:
The first season of Fate: The Winx Saga dropped on Netflix earlier this year, bringing Winx Club to the world of live-action. The series quickly became a hit for Netflix, and the streamer is now looking to add to its initial investment. On Thursday morning, Netflix announced that Fate: The Winx Saga will be returning to the service for a second season.

Season 1 consisted of just six total episodes, and that wasn't nearly enough to tell the story of the Winx Club. Now that the foundation has been put together, the creative team behind the series can expand on the lore with a second installment.

The second season of Fate will consist of eight total episodes, two more than Season 1. Production on the new episodes will begin in Ireland later this year.

“The six episodes in season one only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it," said showrunner Brian Young. "As Bloom's story continues to evolve, I can't wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa! And you never know who might show up at Alfea next term…”

“Winx connects with audiences in the live action adaptation the same way it does in animation," added Iginio Straffi, creator of the Winx Club and Founder and CEO of Rainbow Group. "Over the years, we have seen Winx grow into a global phenomenon and millions of fans have faithfully followed the show. Thanks to this loyal support, ‘Fate: The Winx Saga’ is a massive worldwide success, with a second season underway at Netflix that will continue the story to the delight of fans and viewers everywhere."
