Default Recommend a movie for my movie club

Friends and I are starting a monthly movie club and my wife and I are hosting first. The host gets to pick the movie and we don't tell the others as they may not come if they don't like the movie, seen it already, etc. So I need a movie and am having trouble deciding.

If you had a similar movie club and were kicking it off, what would you show? The sky is the limit but I am thinking anti-blockbuster, more foreign or independent, something most might not have seen (note that most are not movie buffs). Any suggestions?

"An Education"...independent-ish, definitely not a blockbuster, very good performances, nothing too offensive.

I haven't seen either of these yet, unfortunately neither are blu-ray on Netflix though and Undertang isn't really even available on Amazon. But both sound great!

We just saw this a couple days ago, I agree, it was a very good movie and not nearly as offensive as I expected!

Both good choices, try to get the version of Let the Right One In that has theatrical trailers though.

Are you guys talking the 2002 version Caviezel version or the 1998 version with Depardieu?

Definitely the 2002 with the great Caviezel performance. Excellent film and even though its not on blu it would still be the perfect choice for a movie night with a variety of people. I could recommend another thats on blu. What about Changeling or Seven Pounds. Got Em!!

A Serious Man
The Lives of Others
The Orphanage
Layer Cake
Waltz with Bashir

I think any of those would be great starts. All are on Blu-ray and you can pick them up anywhere.

Oh, more suggestions:

Dr. Strangelove
The Machinist
Tell No One

Also all available on Blu-ray.
