Default The Monster (2016)

Quote:
A divorced mother and her headstrong daughter must make an emergency late-night road trip to see the girl's father. As they drive through deserted country roads on a stormy night, they suddenly have a startling collision that leaves them shaken but not seriously hurt. Their car, however, is dead, and as they try in vain to get help, they come to realize they are not alone -- a terrifying evil is lurking in the woods, intent on never letting them leave

Thought this was a great movie, very tense and taught, well paced too, but why did they have to reveal the monster on the cover when it's shrouded in darkness (and allegory) for so long in the movie?

Quite liked this film. Gave it a little review not too long ago.

I absolutely LOVE how all the reviews on Amazon.com are all about the Charlize Theron/Christina Ricci movie.

That cover makes it look like it's from the alien movies for some reason.

I thought it might be this re-titled for a second.

The cover reminds me of the cover of Feast more than anything.

Was interested in this until I saw "From the director of The Strangers." My anticipation plummeted after that.

Strangers has a pretty good atmosphere and an eye for space considering the age of Bertino and the fact that it's a first film. It's far from perfect and becomes a bland Hollywood cat and mouse film in the third act, but I def. felt it had some promise. THE MOMSTER is a worthy follow up (although there is a sophomore feature I know nothing about and looks terrible), and emphasizes the positive aspects that STRANGERS has.

Also, excellent leading performance by Zoe Kazan

THE MOMSTER! That is an awesome title! LOL

Well, count me as a big fan of THE STRANGERS. I saw it in a sold out showing the week it opened and that movie rocked the house. The audience went out of their minds. I love seeing a horror movie that works with a packed house.

Or did FEAST just use the design from CREATURE (1985)?

Whoops! That's what I get for typing quick.

Actually, my typo actually works in favor given the narrative of this movie! I'm keeping it!

You know, with such a simple title, you'd think it wouldn't be that good a movie.

But no, it's very good, and pretty freaking terrifying at times. Monster may not be the best design of all time, but it is appropriately vicious and nasty. The director also really knows how to do good atmosphere and how to make an abandoned woods-surrounded road scary.

This is on Amazon Prime for those that are interested. It was an okay movie, not something I'd ever watch again -- and not even close to the quality of The Strangers, which I love. Still not sure how Scott Speedman got above the title billing since he was barely a cameo.

Strangely my copy of The Monster has a Ultraviolet digital copy sheet that was clearly labelled 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' and redeemed for the David Bowie film; I'm not sure if that's a random fluke. Has anyone else received a digital code for The Monster in their blu? I though getting a different digital film was a nice bonus but definitely unexpected.

Watched this last night, I hated it. Monster was cool, but underused imo.
Glad I held off buying this. Cheers.

I found this to be a really good movie, despite being a little slow paced at times. The two main actors give great performances, especially the truly heartbreaking performance by the little girl.

By the way, this is currently free to watch on Amazon Prime if you have that, but I bought the Blu-Ray anyway. I did watch it on Amazon to see if I initially liked it though.
