Angry WB TV/Animation division about Blu-ray

Quote:
(ChrisC) Great to see you back tonight Warner. Will you be
including lossless audio on your future and past TV on BD?
And I want to add another vote for a commercial DVD release
for Time Trax - its ranked 66th on TVShowsOnDVD.

(WarnerBros) we don't currently have plans to include lossless
audio but we have been looking into it.
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/wiki...imation-4-5-10

^that's the big first. the entire chat was basically "nope, nope, nope" to any questions about blu-ray.

so it's looking like this year will NOT be the year for Blu-Ray on TV!
&
no lossless? WTF?

They're considering Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, the Peanuts specials, and Babylon 5 for blu-ray. The PQ should be good, but the audio is probably remaining compressed to fit more on a disc. I'll settle for it because it gives me hope for full releases of certain shows that haven't been possible because they had to rely on multiple volumes selling well and more space on a disc means less volumes.

From the transcript:

"(WarnerBros) We are evaluating the entire dc comics animated library for blu-ray. We're glad you love Justice League and Batman Animated!"

(WarnerBros) Yes, we are evaluating all DCAU series for Blu Ray.

----------------------------------------------

Once again I am underwhelmed with how HTF runs these chats, and the quality of information we get from WB in them. The main thing I can take from the chat is that television on dvd is dead as a doornail from the major studios. The wall of silence from studios has always been mystifying. Use the fan community to improve dvd releases before they hit the market, because it is apparent the home video departments are woefully unprepared to handle the more demanding titles with myriad issues.

I've really grown to hate their "chats". They basically are just there to randomly pitch what they want to push between questions ("Don't Forget! _____ comes out April 14th! Order yours today!"), and the answers to anything else is "no plans at this time." Even if they KNOW something is coming, if it's not officially announced they'll still say "no plans". Pointless chats.

As long as I get The Vampire Diaries on Blu-ray and continue to get Supernatural I am fine with no lossless audio. Also hope for scooby-doo blu also.

My life would nearly be complete with all of Justice League on blu ray.

I like that Looney Toons, Scooby-Doo, and (more) Peanuts Specials are being considered for Blu.

I read the whole transcript. Warner the whole time was like "Buy this so we can release that. Yadda yadda yadda." Hopefully the titles mentioned earlier will get releases before the end of the year (and more animation).

Well at least it sounded possible for future DC Comics animated releases on blu and it also sounds like they are working on bringing the earlier versions of Smallville to blu (though it was funny the guy who asked said seasons 1-4. guess he is content with S5 on HD-DVD since that one's not out on blu either.).

I would get the first 5 seasons if they're all about $20, I definitely want season 1 since that's one season I currently do not have.

Thank You!!! I was beginning to wonder if many people actually remembered this show besides me. WB owns the rights, and "Trax" ran for two full seasons...meanwhile, shows that barely make it a year get released, while "Trax" gets ignored. Huh?!

don't look for Babylon 5 in this life time, it would take a ton of money according to the creater Joe Michael Straczynski all the "space ships" and such need to be redone plus a lot of the set's were virtual sets and would also have to be redone and WB is really not going to put a ton of money into the project they "WB" wanted to make a movie and wanted it on a shoe string budget and to his credit Joe said no, it will be done right or not at all. P.S. Joe on that day had a great deal to say about WB how screwed up that company is video division fights the theatrical division who fights the tv division no cooperation at all as ware paramount is the opposite all the division work together which is a big reason star trek keeps coming back.

Forget about any of the animated DC series on Blu as well. It's been discussed on Toonzone forums many times and because Justice League S1 flopped, essentially WB wants no more to do with their catalog titles on Blu. The only DC titles we can expect to get on Blu are the new DTV (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc) ones that we've been getting.

I think people have been recently buying S1 in hopes of getting more in the future and because you can get it for like $12 total on Amazon.

I would re-buy all of Babylon 5 on Blu-ray if they did what paramount did with Star Trek Original Series. Redo all the effects shots and release it as Babylon 5 Remaster. I have all the sets of B5 but I would have no problem buying them agin for that

I think a reason Justice League S1 didn't do well was they didn't offer a widescreen version of it. Normally I wouldn't argue for this, but the show was produced and did air in this aspect. Perhaps it would be expensive to put both the OAR 4x3 and the 16x9 aspect on the same BD. But the lack of that on BD really kept fans away.... in droves.

I did eventually pick it up and it looks fantastic. They should release the other 3 seasons.

I'm sure that if Warner releases Batman TAS Season 1 on Blu-ray that it will be a great success. They just need to do it.

Count me in too! I'm afraid the cost would be too prohibitive to do a complete remaster but I'd be willing to even put down money for a complete set at once if done correctly, like the Star Trek TOS sets.

As far as not releasing certain series on Blu-ray, all I can say is that it's WB's loss then. I'm not going to buy a series I don't own yet on DVD simply because they don't release it on Blu-ray. I'd rather keep HDTV broadcast encodings I have then rather than spend money on a DVD set that has lesser picture quality. For older series, I'll just do without that, sadly enough.
