Default What do you do when people don't return blu rays/ dvds they borrow from you?

I know that there is a thread asking if you loan dvds or blu rays to people. But I am asking: To what extremes do you go to recover the movies that you lend out to others if they forget to or simply won't return them? Do you harass them? Do you forget about the movie? Do you appear at their place? Do you get pissed off and swear to never lend a movie again ever?

I don't let anyone borrow my blu rays anymore. Too many bad experiences.

Step foot in the time machine and set the display gauge to the year 2017 when people no longer borrow discs.

Depends. I've let close friends and co-workers keep movies I find I don't care about. Other times, I'll bug them--not incessantly, but now and then. I've never had anybody fail to return a movie, they usually remember at some point and will eventually give it back.

The worst cast scenario I could see happening is me reporting it as a theft--I'm not sure what's involved with that, I guess that means me reporting the borrower as a thief and taking it to court. For that to happen, it'd have to be pretty extreme--like if the person absolutely refuses to give it back, and it's a movie or edition I care about deeply.

Write off the $1-$2 loss and never allow them to borrow anything again, not even a pencil or a quarter.

Fortunately I only loan out movies not bought from a pawn shop/yard sale to people I really trust, which I can count on one hand.

I have had quite a few bad experiences loaning movies to friends/co-workers. So I don't loan anything out anymore. If someone wants to borrow a movie I say no but feel free to come over and watch it sometime. And I will only do that if I like the person enough to spend an hour and a half or more with them.

I usually get ticked off, but basically consider it a loss, and I tend to rebuy those films later when they have a good sale.

I've mostly stopped lending out discs though because of too many problems, what I'll usually do is give a digital copy code to a friend if it a double redemption title (between instawatch and studio double redemptions it can cover a good amount), and have my brother (who was the biggest one with wanting to borrow discs and lives 10 hours away) on ITunes and UV family share so he can just watch those whenever he wants.

What's the difference between stretched and drawn and quartered?

To be drawn and quartered means to have your wrists and ankles tied to four different horses running in opposite directions. The purpose is to stretch the body until it rips apart into four pieces (hence "quartered").

I'll ask a few times, and if nothing happens I'll just never lend to them again.

May be a bit of a cop out answer, but I don’t have to do anything because I don’t let people borrow my discs in the first place. I had done so a long, long, long time ago (and with DVD’s, I was already out of this habit by the time Blu came around), but have had a few bad experiences and have vowed never to do it again.

Honestly, I’m not a fan of people calling or messaging me to basically say, “Hey can you hook me up.” If a friend wants to see something bad enough, they are more than welcome to come over and watch a movie with me. I love hosting film viewings at my house, and I have no problem rewatching something, even if I don’t particularly feel like watching it at the time, as long as I know someone else is getting enjoyment out of it. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable expectation… that if you want to watch one of my movies, we hang out and watch it together.

I find friends and co-workers are pretty conscientious about returning loaned movies.

But family? That's another matter entirely...

I don't lend my movies out. When people ask I tell them that I'm a collector and imo collectors don't lend.

Pair of pliers and a blow torch. Show up on someones doorstep with these and watch all your discs come right home, maybe even a few bucks late fees!
