Default USC = fail

Quote:
The NCAA is going to hit USC football where it hurts most -- in the present -- with a two-year postseason ban and the loss of more than 20 scholarships, according to multiple reports.

As for the past, the Trojans will have to forfeit wins from the 2004 season, when they won their second consecutive national championship.

The NCAA will officially announce its findings on Thursday. USC will have an opportunity to appeal the verdict.

Obviously, we will have much more later.

That's typically how it works. The people that actually break the rules, which is virtually every star from the 2004 title team, as well as the coach, are getting rich while the school pays the price. The basketball coach bailed too and gotten a new (although lower level) job. USC deserves to be punished though. This is the definition of lack of institutional control. They completely looked the other way when obvious shady business was going on.

I agree if they found Carroll was at fault he should have the penalties if he ever came back to cfb, and then just like bush he wouldn't be allowed to help either recruit players or attend events to the school exc. basically be blacklisted rather then punish Kifs program.

Bush is making millions but there is a very good chance he will have to give his Heisman Trophy back. Wonder if that means it will in turn be given to Vince Young, who I always thought was more deserving anyway.

And what happens if USC gets stripped of the 2004 national title? Does the other major undefeated school that year Auburn get handed the title?

I think it's obvious that Pete saw this coming.

Pete knew this was coming the first day he started violating NCAA rules and regulations, still think he's going to fail in Seattle and maybe leave them worse off than they were before.

Of course he will. Seattle was his golden parachute and nothing more. I remember Carroll saying after he took the job that the Seattle Seahawks was "his dream job." Very funny Pete. We know you just took the job for a big payday and a way out of USC.

The biggest thing on Carroll to me is that most big name college coaches fail in the NFL, the only exception I can think of atm is our own Jimmy Johnson.

i guess what im getting at is i wanted this punishment to take place when the violation occurred and bush would of been suspended like dez bryant and the world would of never seen his "talents" forcing him to be a low 1st round pick thus costing him future potential earnings. sorry for the long sentence lol but i want to see actual consequences for these actions. of course things already took place and that cant happen but taking his heisman is meaningless really. no direct punishment to the parties involved.

The NCAA isn't the NFL and certainly has no jurisdiction with the NFL, it would be up to Roger Goodell to retroactively punish Reggie Bush and I don't see that happening.

I wouldn't say they got away unblemished, I know I wouldn't want to be labeled a cheater for the rest of my life.

I remember in an interview a few years ago, he said how he had no interest in leaving college again, because coaching a college team gives you so much more control over the team. I guess he had a sudden change-of-mind.

Yeah it's much easier to control guys who are probably going to school on scholarship than it is to control millionaires, I imagine that change of mind had to do with fear of sanctions and unemployment.

Most of those USC guys turned out to be busts in the NFL anyway. Especially Leinhart and Bush. Bush has been an average #2 back at best.

This will probably be the end of the road for Matt Leinart in Arizona, he no longer has future Hall of Famer and stand-up guy Kurt Warner to hide behind.

I remember watching that classic USC-Texas national title game in 2004 and thinking man there is just a massive number of future NFL superstars on that field. Here we are six years later and both of those great college teams turned out bust after bust. Even Vince Young, who I considered the absolute best shot at being an NFL superstar on the field at the time has turned out to be wildly mediocre.

And I'll bet if this were almost any other NCAA football team the probation would have been a minimum of 4 years. Still I'm surprised they got even 2 years and 20 Scholarships.
