Hello i have been a loyal customer to comcast for the last 3 years...The service is good still to this day...I have the hd/dvr & its nice.
What i pay for...is hd/dvr...high speed internet...and pretty much all the channels but not movie channels like hbo...and i get it on 1 tv only..the other 2 tvs just get basic cable... For 2 more dollars i can get 230 channels on 3 tvs...and a hd/dvr...the internet that comes with the deal is like 3mbps sooo...i dunno if it would be waay slower than comcast...and internet speed is something i care about since i do school work and play online games...But they also said they would throw in a 100 dollar visa card... Just wondering how the service is from people here...I have just had comcast so long..its hard to change because i have everything i like...but u-verse looks tempting...Just curious how everyone that has or had it feels about it. Thanks |

I can't speak for everyone, but I have been extremely unimpressed with them. Other than being able to watch a DVR'd program from any room(from any point in the program) there is no real advantage. The HD is pixelated which to me defeats the purpose of paying for it. There are ways to bump up your internet though while sacrificing PQ, but I've never tried it. All my freebies begin expiring(unless they forget to start charging) in a couple months and I'll be moving to DISH.

U-verse for me was ok, HD PQ was good, but not fantastic as Rob said. SD PQ was quite impressive and it really showed what bad compression and retransmission the other providers have been doing. I was used to what normal channels could look like and less molested HD due to my FTA satellite setup where I could view lots of feeds and channels from across the arc before the providers did their thing to them.
Limits on the HD streams to the house was not a problem for us since we only had uverse in 2 rooms. The boxes user-interface sucked when we had it, but I know they changed things. Dish has a very nice DVR and it's rated highly for good reasons. We had uverse tv for 6 months, then just dropped it and went OTA/FTA/netflix/hulu etc only and I built a media center pc, geesh that was almost 1.5 years ago now. Can't say I'm missing a thing. We did keep uverse for HSI up until about 4 months ago when they started to seriously fall behind other options in my area and were just not price competitive any longer. We were happy with the HSI service, just not the prices. My personal ranking of providers in my area PQ wise would be HD: OTA Directv/Dish (pretty even IMO) Charter (low number of HD channels however) Uverse SD: Uverse (at the time I had them, this was by far top notch SD, may not be any longer but based on their delivery mechanism, I cannot see why this would change) OTA (only because of sub channels getting bit starved at times) Charter Directv Dish (I feel dish had the worst SD PQ) HSI Charter (by far best price and speeds, I get 34/4 for $50 a month) Uverse (better ping and less latency overall when I had them, but pricey, $65 a month for 18/1.5) ATT DSL Other DSL ( I cannot rate wildblue etc, never actually seen or used it) |

A buddy of mine works for Comcast and was talking about some negative aspects of U-Verse's service, and was saying that if you watch something in HD, then your internet slows down. He said that they have a new commercial where Shaq talks about it, I think that's hilarious Last edited by tbizzle; 06-01-2010 at 11:57 AM. |

One more thing I would like to add; as an absolute football nut I am extremely disheartened that these guys havent caught up with DirecTV, DISH etc with signing deals to bring Fox Soccer Plus, which was released in MARCH, onto their network. I shouldnt have to be scraping around the internet looking for streams of a game I want to watch, and when I do find one its awful quality or its jumping every 5 seconds.
Please sort it out U-Verse... ![]() |
