Default Sir Patrick Stewart

Quote:
The actor famous for playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, officially became Sir Patrick Stewart when he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

While Star Trek introduced him to a different group of fans, along with his role as Professor Xavier in the X-Men films, Stewart is also a widely respected stage actor.

The 69-year-old actor discovered the theatre as a child, and said: "My heroes were Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud, Sir Alec Guinness.

"Being in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me."

Stewart joined Britain's Royal Shakespeare Company in his 20s, and in 2008 was nominated for a Tony award for the leading role in Macbeth.

I gotta say that he felt like my surrogate Dad on TNG as I used to watch it every night in syndication. Sir Patrick is a great actor and he certainly deserves this honor!

I really, really like Patick Stewart, well it should be Sir Patrick Stewart actually. He's an amazing actor and one of the finest out there.

I watched an interview of him on Yahoo!, just after he was knighted, saying how he doesn't feel in the same league as his friends, such as Sir Ian McKellan or Sir Sean Connery. Bless him.

He's nowhere near as accomplished, acclaimed or legendary as those two guys, no sir.

Another article about Sir Patrick:

Quote:
British actor Sir Patrick Stewart has walked away the worse for wear after berating a fellow actor at the Glamour Women of the Year awards in London.

Stewart, a distinguished stage and screen actor who became famous for his role in Star Trek, went up on stage to introduce the Film Actress of the Year award and took the opportunity to lay into James Corden who was hosting the awards.

"I want to speak to James here," he said into the microphone, gesturing to Corden behind him. "It is James isn't it?"

Corden, co-creator and star of TV comedy Gavin & Stacey, approached the actor with a smile that soon disappeared once Stewart starting speaking.

"When the presenters are up here and when the recipients are receiving their awards, don't stand at the back of the stage with your hands in your pockets looking around as though you wished you were anywhere but here," Stewart reprimanded.

The host didn't take kindly to the remark and followed with his own dig, "Oh, you couldn't be more wrong Sir, you couldn't be more wrong ... and if it looked like that, I am so sorry but when you come up and present an award, just f---ing get on with it."

The crowd was split, with some cheering and others sounding shocked.

Rather than letting it end there, the exchange degenerated with Stewart throwing in a jibe about the comedian's weight.

"From where I was sitting, I can see your belly," he said.

He trailed off mid-insult but Corden insisted he continue. "I'm waiting for the punchline, go on ... you can see my belly and we can all see you dying right now. Let's go."

At this point, people in the crowd started heckling for the two to get on with the show.

The exchange ended with Stewart delivering a joke about Corden liking the Jonas Brothers, which fell flat, and then he announced the winner of the award, Avatar actress Zoe Saldana.

Feeling the need to clear the air, Saldana accepted the award and said to Corden: "For whatever it's worth, I like your belly," she paused while the crowd cheered and then continued, "but I would pay to see Sir Patrick Stewart dying on stage any day."

After Stewart and Saldana left the stage Corden exposed his belly to audience for anyone who hadn't seen it and said: "Can we get a taxi ready, please? The old man is going home."

Ad Feedback

The Telegraph in London reported that, after the event, Corden said: "I sound like my mum. I wasn't angry. I found it quite disappointing. You should ask him about it but I'm certain he's left."

TV comedian Corden was the star of the film Lesbian Vampire Killers and will this year appear alongside Jack Black and Emily Blunt in Gulliver's Travels.

Stewart is probably best known for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the long-running TV series Star Trek but younger fans would know him as portraying the wise telepath Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men superhero films. Most recently he has starred in television reproductions of Shakespeare plays.
