Default Tomb Raider fans?

Any fans of the Tomb Raider games here?

Admittedly the more recent games have had their problems, but I still consider them great games. The series receives a lot of hatred from the gaming communiy nowadays from people who consider them Uncharted rip-offs (which is a load of crap - if anything, Uncharted is obviously inspired by Tomb Raider Legend.) People tend to overlook the influence and the genius of the original games - Tomb Raider 2 being my favourite.

There was also a leak not to long ago regarding Tomb Raider IX. This concept has a younger Lara trapped on a remote island in Japan, stalked by bizarre creatures and traversing through claustrophobic underground tombs. The game relies more heavily on survival than previous games, and looks to be more of a horror game (which is fine with me - the scares from the original games are absent from the recent offerings.)

I played the first four. There was a fifth game, I forget what it was called and I started to play it but just said; "F*** it!" because I got annoyed with it for some reason. I haven't played any since.

I guess I'm a fan.

I used to have a PC with a 3DFX card which made the original games look great! I used to have the first 3 games and expansion packs. (I don't go near PC's anymore though unless they run linux cuz I hate M$ these days.)

I have TRIII for my PSP/PS3 and TR Anniversary for my PS3 (though it's a PS2 game.)

I still get tired of the controls often though. I tell myself that taking control of a independent woman is never "easy" but there are other more playable games that can often be more fun.

The original TR is the first game I ever played on the "modern" PC (1998), so I have fond memories of it. TR2 was also great.

Which is the one that is considered a "remake" of the first game? Legend?

Anniversary. Though it pales in comparison. In a way, Anniversary is a prequel to Legend. Crystal Dynamics (the developer of the last three games) re-worked the original game's storyline to work with Legend.

I found Anniversary to be much better than Legend. I even liked Underworld but Anniversary with the upgraded graphics and Legends new control scheme made it better it the best out of the "new ones" in my eyes. I had issues with Legend because of the too many "not really tombs" levels. I mean one of them had me going through some russian factory.

I've written thesis size rebut of the differences between the uncharted series and the TR series. It annoys me they are compared at all. As game types go they are pretty much in different genres with TR getting the platform adventure element and Uncharted more in the shooter category.

to each their own I guess.

Legend are Anniversary are great. Underworld seemed a bit of a step back, but I still enjoyed it.

I played Legend but haven't picked up the sequel to that, maybe I should...

Is Keeley Hawes still the voice for Lara?

I enjoyed Anniversary, Legend and Underworld. My only gripe about the games is the auto-aim - I like to do the work myself, not have the game do it for me!

She voiced Lara in Anniversary and Underworld also. It's unknown whether she'll return for the upcoming titles Guardian of Light and Origins.

All three games are masterpieces, in my opinion.
