Hi, I am a fan of BSG and is thinking of owning a complete collection in blu ray. I have never bought any seasons seperately and don't have the DVD collection and is facing these four options (maybe more):

1. Buy the new complete series 149.99
2. Buy the old complete series + The Plan BR
3. Buy all of them seperately
4. Buy the UK complete series version for 106.02 + The Plan (since the UK version also does not include the Plan)

So the new packaging is better than the old packaging since I guess the new one is pretty much like buying the blu rays seperately with their individual boxes which is way more easier to store and put them on a shelf. But what about the new pkg vs the UK pkg? As a BSG fan and BR collector which one is more preferred because I want the highest quality both in the video/audio as well as the exterior box set.

Also does timing matter? Should I wait and buy it on Christmas sale? Will it go below 149.99 at Christmas?

BTW I also know that the complete series box set does not include the resistance webisodes. Is there a DVD version that includes this? Moreover, the Razor in the box set, is it the extended edition like the DVD version?

Thanks

As of now the 'old' version is 149.99 and the 'new' version is 209.99, so that's a $50 diff for the packaging (you mentioned 149.99 for the new packaging, which is wrong). See what version shows up on the lightning deal tomorrow as previous poster said.

My wife bought me the older version for Christmas when it was on sale at BB for $175. I got the newer replacement packaging for it and I like it a lot better as it takes up a lot less shelf space. Also there is less risk of getting the discs scratched. Also I did get the cylon figure with the old box, which is kind of cool.

Yes you are right sorry for that error cause I was looking at the amazon canada webpage and they have the new one at 149.99 and the old one at 260.99! Weird. But basically there's no price difference between the new and old, they are both 149.99 but the old one will probably be a bit more expensive due to the international shipping + currency conversion at least for me.

And thanks TylerDurden for the lightning deal info I never knew this. It might easily solve my problem. But it's also possible that the lightning deal drops the US price from 209.99 to 149.99 the Canadian price lol. So is the lightning deal only on Amazon.com?

You have it backwards. The OLD packaging was terrible. The new packaging (in the set that includes The Plan) is way more study and stable.

Agreed, the new packaging is better. It uses the standard digipaks while the old one had these funky sleeves that could easily scratch the discs (as the discs were a pain to get in and out of).

You are right, I didn't realize the reviews and comments on the new packaging on amazon actually shows all comments for the series (old pkg, DVD, etc) until you have mentioned.

So I guess the new pkging is definately better than the old one. How about comparing the new to the UK packaging?

Also, does the resistance webisode ever have been released on any DVDs?

Thanks

Im pretty sure The Resistance webisodes are in the season 3 box set as an extra. The First Cylon War webisodes should be on the Razor disc (I'm actually not 100% sure of that, I know most of it was incorporated into Razor itSelf). Now The Enemy webisodes are definite NOT there, there's a legal problem that makes putting them on home video that prevents them from being there.

Yeah I think the new US packaging is better than the old US packaging. I'm not one to insist that every boxset looks standard sized and packs the discs compactly, but the old US one just looked bulky and cheap, and the discs were annoying to get hold of (with them being blu-rays, I'm not sure if they were really THAT prone to being scratched, but it was still a cheap and annoying way to pack them nonetheless). The main thing that's annoying in the new US one is that The Plan often does not have a slipcover when in the box so it looks a bit odd... to solve this, I'd buy a seperate BD of the plan which does have a slipcover, take the slipcover, and then sell it again... but maybe I'm a bit OCD about that.

That said - I'd go for the new UK version, in spite of its annoying lack of The Plan. I'm not sure how much cheaper it works out as (at the current $210, even with the bad exchange rate now, I think UK import is still cheaper), but it just looks nicer... the picture on Amazon etc doesn't look that great, but on the other side it has more 'main' characters:

The US one is just a bit blander. Also the UK one has an episode guide booklet, whereas I believe the old US one had nothing of the sort, and the new one just has the eps listed on the back of the digipacks.

I'd go with the new UK packaging, as it seems to be the best one available.

I bought the first collection for $150 at Best Buy, I'll eventually get the Plan when it's 9.99. I'm a completist, but it isn't so good I have to own it. I was going to get the new packaging by mail, but got lazy and forgot. I may one day make my own cases because the kit (while neat) isn't great for storing and managing discs.
