Default Stand alone owners: How do you get firmware updates?

My PS3 is my Blu-Ray player so I get my firmware updates automatically.

Do stand alone players connect to the internet for updates, or does the manufacturer send you firmware update discs in the mail?

I'm asking because I'm looking to get a second player for my other room.

You download the update on your computer and burn it to a CD, then pop the CD in your player.

That's how it works for my Panny anyway.

The Samsung BD-P1200 has an ethernet connection and can receive updates via ethernet. Works great, but unlike the PS3, you'll need to query for updates as opposed to being automatically notified by the player.

In the case of the Sony BDP-S1, you have to burn it to a DVD...the player does not support the CD format. For me, this was an important distinction, as I do not have a DVD burner. Fortunately, help is on the way in the form of a new HP laptop with built-in DVD burning capability.

If you dont have ethernet access, make sure its a player thatll take whatever your burner will do. Its easy other than that. Download, burn it and pop it in.

or the studios start putting the updates right on the disc along with the movie.
SONY does this with UMD for the PSP.. i love the FUDster's TRYING TO spread that FUD. that the current BLU-RAY players will be useless. all the players allow firmware updates. so the problem can be fixed.
