Default Do you guys think an update on PS3 will ever get it to play MKV files?

It can play almost every damn video files which is freaking awesome of course. But it still can't play MKV files. Why is that?

I don't know. But, if you download the PS3 Media Server utility program for your computer, you can stream any possible video file to your PS3 and the software will convert ANY material into a format that the PS3 can read. So, who really cares? Using PS3 Media Server is the solution to any codec issues you may have regarding the PS3 and its compatibility.

Look up MKV2VOB. (vob, which, PS3 does read)

Fantastic tool. Basically lossless in conversion.

I've often found a loss in PQ when converting a MKV file with this program...but from what I read at the time, it had to do with the file I was converting and the audio track for some-odd reason...

but I can't remember for sure...

Yeah i know this tool. Awesome indeed.
But i still think its weird that it can't play MKV when it can almost play all files. And there hasn't even been an update for it to play MKV files yet. Maybe it is because of the tool mkv2vob

From what I know, DIVX now officially supports the mkv container. So that would probably be the only reason the PS3 would get mkv support.

You can also do a perfect conversion with quicktime if you're on a mac.
