Default Upgrade Exhaustion: Is The TV Industry Ripping Consumers Off? (Digital Trends article

http://www.digitaltrends.com/talk-ba...consumers-off/
^GREAT article

why didn't they sit down in 1992 and spec out 16k, 16-bit color depths/color space, 3-D 16k per eye, 1terabit, 48-bit/384kHz 22.22 connection? i mean i'm just a simple man but even i could've done that. spec. it out, then wait for CE companies to 'catch up' to a spec.

The TV industry is like war, good for business, for the hardware and software suppliers.

You always have the choice to buy, or not.

It is not such a great article.

All the author has to do is come to my 3-door garage and I will gladly show him my old reel to reel, 8-track players, cassette players and cassette tapes, record players, quad LP's, 45 records, LD players and discs, couple of Beta players, few VHS VCR's, couple of B&W and several color tube TV's, several receivers, over 10 different DirecTV receivers, several antennas, 10 different DVD players, countless large and small cell phones, several Palm PDA's, my son's Atari, Commodore 64, PS1, PS2, PS3, Nintendo, my old Apple II, several DOS machines, Windows 95, 98 and Me computers, etc, etc. etc.

What's the big deal? Been there, done that.

In fact, I owned a few small transistor radios. I used to listen to them in bed when I was a young kid. The teachers always wondered why I was so tired in the morning. I rarely slept before 3:00am.

Yup, I got my very first transistor AM radio on my 6th birthday, a present from my Grand-Ma. I connected another speaker to the one already in the casing, and I installed it over my bed to simulate a pseudo stereo effect.
It's a fact.

one big reason why i love the audio end of the spectrum, instead of the visuals.

good read tho, thanks for sharing.
