Cool Hello, my name is Tron, and I'm a Blu-ray-aholic.

I first realized I had a problem when I started to join more enthusiastically in the discussions. I have been a member since 8/04, but only occasionally came by to see what was new with blu-ray, and chide in my comments.

My habit gradually became worse (or is it better?) and soon I was sucked into 20 to 30 threads or more. Hours and days spent waiting for others, like me, to stop by and feed my obsession with blu-ray, and respond to threads. Even after exhasting my favorite sections, I would constantly refresh hoping to shake out the last few crumbs of entertainment.

I reached a high on the day my blu-blood membership exploded due to the Paramount / Toshiba deal. Soon, one by one, most of them forsook me. It was chaos. Since then, I have been seeking that high again. But like a date with Heather Locklear, it was unobtainable.

My obsession shifted to my blu-ray movies. Devouring 1 or 2 in a day, and licking the vestige of the extras the next day. Sometimes they were in hi-def and fed my need. It didn't matter, as long as it was blu-ray.

I am here in hopes of getting help. Perhaps in the form of a new movie, or 6.
So, I am starting this support group. New members welcome.

Anyone else care to confess?

Phew, and I only thought it was a passing phase, immediately before and after that first purchase, or just some adjustment to life-during-wartime...

...Nice to know it's permanent and incurable.

I have been following Blu-ray since before it released in Japan in 2003.

I was hoping for it to be a better answer than DVHS for recording HD, but it turned into the pressed movie format in the USA - the recordable side never really made it here.

I must admit that I was almost cured when the BD launch was kinda lack luster and it looked like HD DVD had the edge even though it had worse specs.

Since those heady days Blu-ray has made quite a comeback and I find myself spending inordinate amounts of time working with BD writing, BD websites, discussing BD here as well as 'challenging' the dissenters at the AVS forum.

No sign of recovery any time soon...

The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem. I refuse to call this a problem.

^^ To all above,

Welcome to the BRA (Blu-Ray Anon)
We've had a recent surge in membership.

Sad part is: no member of the BRA has ever been rehabilitated

Rup.

Now a hard coat layer will form over your brain and you will be incurable. On the plus side, you will develop High Definition vision.

I don't have a blu-ray problem... I have a money problem... as in, not enough money to buy more blu-rays.

Actually this has come up before on the forum. The uncontrollable urge to buy more and more Blu-Ray discs. I'm sure some psychologist could assign a name to the "disorder". I've seen it mentioned at least 5 times.

P.S. Good to see you around Wondermaker. You missed the "I am not a girl" post by Wicky.

Edit:
Ok seriously, those thinking they have an issue should look for help:“Compulsive buying leads to serious psychological, financial and family problems including depression, overwhelming debt and the breakup of relationships,” Koran said. “People who think they might have the condition should seek help, because it’s available to them.”

The article goes on to say one of the signs is closets full of unused items in the thousands.

http://daily.stanford.edu/article/20...otJustForWomen

“We don’t know why some people are vulnerable, but we’re trying to learn.”

Man, I wish I had closets full of unused blu-rays in the thousands. Well, OK, they wouldn't be unused. In that case I would agree, that would be a problem. More specifically, abuse.

The Koran said that?

OK. Sorry, bad joke.
