Default A Guide to Movie Going.

For those of us that enjoy a theatrical experience, going to the cinema is a right of passage.

The larger than life screen, sound that will always be louder than home, previews, popcorn and the reminder to silence the cell phone are just a few reasons to dish out the extra dollars to se a first run film.

This institution has survived and flourished in the hardest of times in our country.

The greatest of all escapes!

But some of us do not go. We love movies (obviously or I would not be reading this) but we also are afraid of being let down.

No need for that anymore.

The number one rule for all movie fans is to LOWER EXPECTATIONS!

Thats right, stop expecting so much from you movie going experience. Just go to escape, leave this world, forget reality and try to be immersed in a different world.

Let your theater know of all presentation, temperature, lighting issues. You pay for it, they work for you.

But most of all....See a movie not at home. For those of you that wait for Blu/DVD, remember, nothing good went straight to DVD!

I hear what you're saying, but I don't know if that's the answer.

My biggest problem with the theater experience today is other people and their LOWERED EXPECTATIONS.

I can take the occasionally muddy sound, fuzzy projection and high prices just fine. No problem. It's the constant talking, cell phones and screaming babies that keep me away.

The new Sam Jackson movie Unthinkable was pretty good. On topic i go see as many movies in the theater as i can but it just keeps getting more and more expensive. When i first started dating my girlfriend we would go see about 2 or 3 movies a week. Now we only see what looks like it will be worth the money. It's sad that 2 tickets and popcorn costs more than owning it about 6 months down the road. Heck seeing a movie in Cinemarks XD screen costs $11.50 normally and $13.50 for 3D.

That's what keeps me from the theaters....the price. The cell phones, loud talkers, and crying kids don't help either.

I still enjoy going to the theaters very much. There's just something about it watching the movie with 100 other people that (when everyone is considerate) enhances the experience. I also tend to concentrate a lot more on the movie when I watch it in the theatre.

With the extremely high prices for tickets and concessions its really hard to lower expectations. When I saw Iron Man 2 it cost me $19 for 1 ticket, small popcorn, and small drink.

I do understand the need for many to still go to the theater but for me it's becoming less and less.

-Most of the time the image is bad, I have better at home with Blu-ray which is truly sad as I should have a better picture quality in theater.

-People moving around, talking....it get's annoying after a while. At home I can pause the movie.

-No need to dress up

-Snacks don't cause me a fortune

I will still go in theater but it's less and less. Twenty years ago I would go on average of close to 30 times a year in theaters. There were times when I even got out of certain movies and put myself right back in line to see it again I suppose some of it could be age. I was a teen and in my twenties and so being out was cool. I am now in my 40's and being home is more comfortable Now I go between 5-10 times a year and it's closer to five. I have a few movie channels in HD, a postal rental service and can buy those I really want in Blu-ray. It's much easier to stay home.

I think we should remember that you shouldn't have mobile Phones going off during movies

And Comedies and action flicks are more enjoyed in a larger audience.

If there were money in it, I'd love to run an upscale theater for 18+ only that was very strict in terms of etiquette.

I'd pay extra to go to your theater! Or even if was teens that had to be accompanied by an adult. The problem is the pack of teens that descend, with the inevitable showing off from the guys and the incessant giggling from the girls... sorry if i'm stereotyping! Of course it's not all of them, but there seems to be one disruptive bunch at every weekend showing...

My solution is to aim for those mid-week showings, and to wait until a movie is near the end of its run. Bottom line, less people = less chance of disruptive people!

My theater does 18 only screenings, you have to pat extra for it though, and the times are usually late.

I rarely go to the theater these days. It will cost the same or less to buy a blu-ray as for two people to have the 'theater experience'. Going to the big screen is nice, but when I turn off the lights at home, sit back with my 'large popcorn and a coke', crank up the sound, cuddle up with my wife...it's not too bad! I'd rather buy a BD blind for some movies and take the gamble... one's doing the same thing by going to the theater 'blind', spending more, and then being disappointed. However, I still go to the theater to see a select few that I don't want to wait for.

I'm ok with this concept. I hate that when I specifically target a midnight performance to avoid kids, they are still there. I'm not just talking about teenagers. There are people who have combined DNA and actually bring the product of that combination to midnight shows. 2-5 year olds. CRAZY. STUPID.
