At the time of writing, only 8 Indian movies on blu-ray have been reviewed by a staff member of Blu-ray.com. These include Sivaji, Billa, Villu, New York and King reviewed by Dr. Svet Atanasov, Partner (Eros Version) and Lage Raho Munnabhai reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman and Saawariya reviewed by Martin Liebman. Again at the time of writing, 50+ blu-rays of Indian movies are available, making the number of official reviews on the site less than 20% of what is currently on the market. The member "Bollywood Blu-Ray", who has a commercial partnership with Blu-ray.com, has on several occasions stated on this forum that this disc or that disc has been sent to the reviewers of Blu-ray.com and that an "official" review should be coming soon. This, I have recently discoved, is a lie. Indeed earlier today I contacted Dr. Atanasov, who is the main reviewer for for Criterion and non-US discs on Blu-ray.com, to ask him to review Indian discs on a more regular basis, seeing as how since the last time he reviewed an Indian blu-ray (King), he's reviewed hundreds of blu-rays from Criterion, the UK, France, Hong Kong, Korea, Taïwan, Germany, etc... His reply was simple and to the point: "after the initial batch of discs the site received, the Indian content owners have not provided any product for review".

I think the real reason for lack of official blu-ray reviews for Indian movies is simple...they do not deserve to be get reviewed (barring a few exceptions). The reviewers here don't want to get themselves into a spot of bother. If they write good about bad transfers & authoring, they will lose their credibility to the members, & if they write bad about bad transfers & authoring...the companies will find it hard to sell their botched products. So its better to have no reviews for everyone's sake (except consumers). Actually it seems to be a mutual understanding.
One person who has been giving us some insight into the shoddy quality of Indian BDs...either he is not allowed to post his reviews or his posts get deleted (actually of many users). Some people talk about not to depend our buying decision on a single review...and he owns most or all of Indian BDs...which shows that he just wants to own each & every title on BD (as per his comments)...may be because he is a Fan...Quality doesn't matter to him. @ bold: We all here are Bollywood fans...love those movies...want to see them in perfect condition. When they are done shoddily...we get upset...since we love our movies...it hurts when they get ill treatment...its not always for monetary loss...but its for the affection. I don't think that by buying poor quality discs we can support the industry...it will give India, Bollywood & Bolly Companies a bad name...it will do more harm than good. |

We have been supplying updates and movies to blu-ray .com since we started the region c section with them and have had no issues with our credibilty ,we hada reply from blu-ray.com saying following from Dr svet
Hello BBR, You certainly do not have to send every Indian BD disc that is released because we simply won't be able to cover all of them. Thanks. S. They have also restrictions on what they can reveiw ,i hope Dr Svet can post his commnents here as well regarding the reveiwing of bollywood blu-ray movies on this forum . Sanjay |

Good evening,
I would like to clarity a couple of things so that there are no more speculations and so that hopefully people can go back to discussing films and BD releases. 1. Our team strives to cover as much product, both domestic and international, as possible. The fact that there are no regular reviews for Indian BD releases is in no way indicative of a "mutual understanding" of some sort. We do not yet cover Spanish and German BD releases on a regular basis either. As the site continues to expand, we hope that so will coverage. 2. I would like to make something very clear: unlike what has been said, no member was ever told not to post "reviews" on the forum, directly or indirectly. Let me repeat one more time: no member was ever told not to post "reviews" on the forum. Hopefully, it is perfectly clear now. 3. What was suggested by the administrative team is that these "reviews" are posted in the proper threads so that everyone can contribute to the discussions. These posts/suggestions are very easy to locate. Find and read them. 4. The forum has strict rules and regulations to restrict spamming. 5. There are members here who have made it practically impossible to have normal discussions. Some members who are now suspended/banned and some who are still actively posting have driven casual members away, and made it impossible for content owners or insiders to post here. A small group of very abusive posters have determined that their negative opinion is the only one that matters, and unless one agrees with it, one is quickly labeled, abused, and accused of...everything and anything. We are an open community where people from all over the world come to discuss films and everything Blu-ray. Unfortunately, some people have a difficult time grasping the concept. 5. Our owners/developers have done more than anyone could have ever hoped for to build a community where everyone could come and discuss/talk about the films they love and wish to see on Blu-ray. Throwing accusations at the owners/developers that question their integrity is, to say the least, very unethical, considering that Blu-ray.com is the only place that I am aware of which has a dedicated Indian section within a Region-C subforum. Finally, I have neither the desire nor the energy to continuously address behavioral issues. Follow the rules and respect the people who make/have made Blu-ray.com such a terrific place - the owners/developers, administrators, moderators, reviewers, and your fellow members. If you cannot, then it is probably best that you find another site that meets your standards. Thank you. Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 06-18-2010 at 07:43 PM. |
