Default New Star Trek series?

Television just seems incomplete without a currently running Star Trek show, whatever happened to that one that was rumored after Enterprise?

Not sure where I read it but I think they are focusing on the movies and could make a new series after movie 2 is released in 2012. I'm surprised we don't have a new series by now.

+1 really really bigstyle!

I think they should make some 1 to 2 episode feature length stories based in the Star Trek universe, exploring what other people do.

ie. Follow a team from FEBRA (Federation Earth Biosphere Restoration Agency). The agency was set up to restore the Earths Biodiversity now that polluting and environmentally damaging industry has been moved off world. The idea for the agency was insipred by a voyage Cpt. J.T. Kirk who restored an extinct species of whale by the use of time travel. Obviously things will not go as planned... especially for the guy in the red shirt!!!

Any more ideas for some epoisodes?

Call me a sucker for all things Borg, but I would like to see a Star Trek series that tells the story of how the Borg came to be. How maybe the Borg Queen was once a mortal whose scientific research led her to begin to see how adding machine parts to people "improved" them in ways that no one thought possible, even realistically opening the door to immortality. Kind of like starting with limb replacement and then moving on to implanting microchips in someone's head -- drawing parallels to things that we're pretty much headed toward. And then seeing how much further it can go from there.

That's probably not how the Borg began, I'm not a huge fan and I'm not aware of all of the backstories, but I'd like to see how a great enemy in the Star Trek universe grows from someone who is most likely well-intentioned, but becomes corrupted by their own knowledge and quest to better themselves.

Essentially, I want to see a Star Trek series that ultimately, at the end of its run, has an ending that just fills you with dread for what we know is to come.

You're right there. IMO Paramount is missing a trick by not releasing some decent series from a different standpoint exploring other aspects of the Star Trek universe. BG is spawning all sorts of spin offs doing the same type of thing.

Yes. Caprica is an excellent series and it takes the approach of seeing something from a different angle within the Galactica universe rather than just rehashing what's been done before. I think what really doomed Star Trek: Enterprise was that it was yet another series about a crew's voyages into space. It seemed to me that, by the time it got a few seasons in, people were just weary of that.

tease

like others I thought there would be something here, though after last years movie I was a bit nervous.

If they do, I hope they go with an other series that takes place even farther in the future like they did with NG. And not a redo of the old one or working off of the new movie. Or in the past as withy enterprise.

I would love to see a series that followed the crew of the USS Kelvin before the events of the latest film.

Actually that's a pretty good idea, doesn't sound like there's any plans for such a show right now though.

Heres a question for Star Trek fans, in 'First Contact', Jean-Luc is having flashbacks about being asimilated by the borg... where or when in the series did this happen? I used to watch 'Next Generation', but not as much as I would like to have.

"The best of both worlds" - episode one, end of season 3... Concludes starting season 4.

Best. Cliffhanger. Ever.

The end of Part 1 had me dying to see what was going to happen next.

I'm not sure the standard Networks would invest in a Star Trek series while it has it's fans it really never has gotten the viewers needed for the budget required on Network TV.

I could see ScyFy, Spike or CW doing a low budget BSG type version of Trek. I could also see Showtime or HBO willing to do a series but I doubt Paramount would be willing to introduce the nudity and language into the series that would be needed for it to work on those networks.

As long as Rick Berman and Brannon Braga have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with any future Star Trek tv series, I'll watch it.

Its a kicker that now that HD is really expanding & yet a show like ST that could really take advantage of it isnt currently on the air.

Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars, but I'd MUCH rather see a Trek series on TV.
