Clear improvement on the remastered Blu.

Nice to see Warner not shafting the customer by recycling an old master.

Here's the 4K BD vs 4K Ultra HD for reference:

Talking about older vs newer 1080p blu ray, It's punchier to be sure, and doesn't have the overall green cast for the Matrix world, but I feel it's a bit too bright (to the point of blown-out whites). The UHD looks superior to be sure.

And are these bad compression artifacts in the remastered blu?

There's comparisons available from the link posted in the OP. The UHD BD is very well done, compared to the BD.

yeesh... this comparison doesn't hold up as well as some of the others. I'm happy the green tint is gone, but I feel like this particular comparison is a step down for detail and sharpness.

I thought there was an improvement...

But I guess it's a matter of opinion.

So there was never supposed to be a slight green tint on The Matrix? I assumed that the older bd was how it originally looked in cinemas.

Apparently the green tint was added to bring it in line with the sequels.

I think there was always a green-tint to the machine world, it just wasn't as pervasive as it was in Reloaded and Revolutions.

The old Blu-ray had a hint of green tint in the real world as well, as it was more of a blanket grading.

If the remastered blu was done properly, and was basically a 1080 version of the 4K disc I'd have been tempted to pick up the UHD release. But with it seemingly mastered in the wrong colour space, with clipping in the highlights, I'll probably just hang onto the standard blu and pick up the UHD when I upgrade the TV.

Can you explain more about this?

By most accounts, of those who've watched the discs (see the discussions in the 4K thread), praise all round for the 4K disc. Whereas it sounds like the same care hasn't been given to the included remastered blu disc. If they colour corrected based on HDR10, but didn't specifically calibrate for a blu version, then enevitably a lot would have been lost in translation.

The focus has obviously been on the 4K disc, understandable, but trading one set of issues on the blu for another set isn't worth it for me.
When I upgrade the TV, I'm sure "The Martix" UHD will be on the list, but I won't be buying the UHD set to watch the remastered blu.

There is a shot of Trinity on the roof and in the background the clouds in the sky are clearly visible on the previous DVD, Blu-ray and the new UHD but on the new remastered Blu-ray they are blown out and not visible.

Yeah the new BD seems as one to avoid but the UHD seems a good improvement. Haven't been able to witness this with my own eyes but read alot so seems quite sure this is how it is.

The UHD disc is great but the biggest plus for me is the Atmos soundtrack.

I’ve watched the remastered blu-ray, and it's a substantial improvement over the old VC-1 master. Detail is greatly improved with a nice layer of fine grain, and the colours are much, much better. Yes there are a few issues with some blown out highlights, but they have been greatly exaggerated by the armchair experts on various forums. When taken as a whole, the problems are quite minimal really.

This shot and this shot are horribly clipped on the new remaster, it clearly has contrast/gamma issues on the BD format which is a shame because it's so much better in just about every other capacity.
