Taken was a thoroughly entertaining action flick. There wasn't much of a story, it was really just an excuse for 90 minutes of Liam Neeson beating people up, but it was executed very well.
I haven't seen Edge of Darkness but the trailers looked awful, I heard it was one of the worst movies ever, and Mel Gibson is pathetic and shouldn't be supported. My two cents. ![]() |

Definitely Taken. I haven't seen Edge of Darkness and don't ever plan to. I've never liked Mel Gibson in the first place so there's no desire to see any of his movies. |

While there are similar themes, the two are actually quite different overall. But when choosing one or the other, Taken is definitely the better of the two in my opion.

I say separate the art from the artist. Gibson's acting and directing are top notch in almost everything he does (and his acting in Edge of Darkness is quite good), so I'm going to enjoy that for what it is. His off-screen antics aren't going to stop me from enjoying a perfectly fine movie that he's in or a good performance that he gives. I've said the same thing about Sean Penn and Roman Polanski for years, and it now applies to Mel Gibson as well. Last edited by bsweetness; 07-02-2010 at 06:59 PM. |

![]() I'm losing a lot of faith in Monahan's writing ability. Kingdom of Heaven was pretty good, but the movie centered around the most boring character(Balian) instead of it's most interesting(Baldwin). The Departed is a remake of a HK film trilogy, where his only new idea was an ill-concieved love triangle. Body of Lies was good, but something was lacking as I couldn't quite connect fully with the main character. And now we get Edge of Darkness, the first revenge thriller without any revenge or many thrills. NTM, that the comedy is terrible, specifically a running joke about everything being illegal in Massachusetts just to comepletely drop the ball the one time it may have actually been funny(when the lawyer gets in his car). IDK whose idea the ending of the film was, but seemed completely out of place. ![]() |

Anyway, as everyone else has said quite eloquently, Taken is a great movie. Can't go wrong. |

I think it's a decent connect-the-dots muder mystery that is elevated by Gibson's performance, but you'll get no argument from me on it not being what it was advertised to be. It certainly isn't the action revenge thriller that the trailer and the commercials tried to sell.
