Default Do you enjoy recent Hollywood comedies?

Hi everyone.

Am I the only one or most of the recently humor/comdey genre movies are stupid, rude, not funny and overall bad movies. (with some very few exceptions only)

I mean there were some movies released that I didnt lough even once during its entire runtime.
Others were just too in your face with stupid and rude scenes, jokes.

DO YOU FIND THAT IN GENERAL THE COMDEY GENRE IS ON A STEEP DOWNWILL MOVEMENT

Here lately, there's less and less that makes me laugh. Random videos on Youtube are WAY funnier than 99% of the crap that Hollywood considers "comedy" these days.

Didn't see the big deal about The Hangover. It made millions and a lot of people I've talked to acted like it was the funniest freakin' thing they'd ever seen.

Really people...

Its either a summer or winter comedy that makes up for the whole year. My guess will will Litter Fockers or Due Date that makes it this year.

No. Cannot remember the last time I LOL at a Hollywood comedy. Last one I saw was Date Night (amusing but not funny)and this seems to be the level that most comedies are made to now.

If we look at the really low point at comedy, when Pauly Shore was in business Then we've definitely got better, but it's not really the high point of comedies, but it's definitely improved.

I find most comedians and comedy flicks to suck. I don't think movies are a good format for humor... Tv shows it can work, but movies don't often. If I want to laugh I watch stand up of George Carlin, Lewis Black, Richard Pryor, or Doug Stanhope. I'll watch a comedy tv show, but I won't laugh as much.

With movies, I find if it's a comedy first, I won't laugh as much. If it's equal parts, or most something else, like an action movie it works better. Kick Ass for example made me laugh more than any crap with Adam Sandler.

I don't care about rudeness, if it's political correct... In fact, I enjoy it. The world's turn into this p.c. hippy hug fest, where you can't say this, can't say that. I love when somebody comes along and says, "no this is reality, stop trying to sell your made up lovey-dovey world".

What do you class as non PC. I find that the older stand up comedians are far better without all of the restraints that they have now and far funnier.

There are only 2 I deem worthy of the word "hilarious" in the last 5 years. That would Grandma's Boy and Role Models. The rest have been disappointments, to say the least.

I have found that some action movies which incorporates humor has been surprisingly funny and effective in recent years-adding to the experience rather being a detraction. The first transformers movie for an example. As for pure comedies,I can't remember last time I saw one where I laughed out loud

we're back to the days of crude, plebian gross out humor rather than intelligent witty humor. Comedies in the last 10 years have been AWEFUL for the most part.

I thought Forgetting Sarah Marshall, She's Out of My League, Hot Tub Time Machine, I Love You Man, and some others lately were extremely funny. I few of them have given me headaches from laughing so hard.

I know it wasn't made in Hollywood, but In Bruges had me in stitches as well.

Where is Jim Carrey now, where is the guy from naked gun, where is Danni de vito.
All their recent movies sucked.

I mean quality of movies is important, but what is more important in comdey movies is that they have to make you lough.
Recent movies arent that funny at all.

Hallmarks of comedies for me will always be Dumb and Dumber and naked Gun and some more too.

I agree I thought all of them where very funny. I am not sure where I fall because I like many new ones but it's hard to beat ferris buellers day off, planes, trains and automobiles, the jerk, etc... I guess my favorite comedies come from 70's to 90's but many modern ones have me rolling also. This was posted on my phone so sorry if I made and mistakes it's hard to correct on the phone.

I'll agree. I'm 34, and nothing these days is as funny as movies from the 80's. Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Original Police Academy, etc... I can't stand Will Ferrel, except in Stranger than Fiction, I didn't find The Hangover funny... a few chuckles here and there, but not overall funny movies anymore.

I think the comedies that have come out in the past couple of years are just as funny as the ones from the eighties. It's just a different time, so they are a different kind of funny. Our parents used to say the same thing, that the comedies from the 70's were funnier.

For the most part I don't get into comedies all that much, but IMO they're certainly not getting any better. Some of my favorites are Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, Ghostbusters, and Major Payne. I have been unimpressed (to put it mildly) with the new generation of comedy. Will Ferrell is useless and I thought The Hangover was a sad joke. the vast majority of them I don't even bother to watch.

To answer you question, I don't find anything non PC, but the majority of others do. So a lot of people would say George Carlin, Lewis Black, Doug Stanhope, and Richard Pryor are not PC. Those are pretty much my favorites. But I basically like comedians that have similar views as me. Point out the illogical nature of people, politics, religion, ect... But make me laugh. I don't like Bill Maher because he can't make me laugh, even though I agree with him on his views.

Lenny Bruce had restraints. Guy got arrested for doing his show in '61 (I think). Said one "bad" word (no such thing) and he has cops at his shows every time after, waiting to arrest him. George Carlin got arrest in '72 for his 7 dirty words act.

But comedians today don't have the same restraints they use to. While there are still restraints, Carlin got fired in Las Vegas in 2005 or 04 because his audience were uptight morons. But HBO helps, Shotime, and dvd releases. Before, if you tried to do those types of jokes, very few places would hire you.

One show I always loved was Get Smart. I'm a real sucker for stuff about a bumbling imbecile that saves the world. Don't really know why. I liked the movie too with Steve Carell.

I also liked The Informant. Never laughed though, but it was amusing.
