Default I think SteelBooks have lost their credibility again?

In the early days, DVD steelbooks were considered collector items. Then Universal started re-releasing backlog films in them with no additional extras (Back To The Future Trilogy, Jurassic Park Trilogy). On that day, they became less than collectors items.

And now, with the recent sale of just steelbooks on their own, I fear that the same thing is happeneing with blu-ray steelbooks. Hell, there has even been a porno released in a steelbook and you don't get much less credible than that!

What do you think?

I don't buy them because of their 'collectability' I buy them if I think they look nice, and if the film appeals to me
Therefore, if I was going to buy it on amaray, I might as well buy the steelbook version

I think just about everybody saw this coming sooner or later

My purchasing habbits are right there along with Spikeyjac's. I think if anybody is into this as an "Investment", they're in for a big letdown. In time even the "Big Guns" (Rambo, Iron Man, IAL,) won't be worth the going rate for Alluminum

I have had rare ones in my possession but tend to move them on as soon as I get them, so the value doesn't drop too much..
The only exception being the BB hurt locker, and that's because I quite like it..
I payed hardly anything for it ( about Ł19 to be exact) and so even if I don't make alot of money, I'm pretty sure I will make my money back

First off,
1. Look at the spine and link. It's a steelbook.
and
2. Who keeps changing my thread titles? This thread is about what the COMMUNITY thinks, not just about what I think.

You mean, have I ever owned some metal crap, can I spot one from 1000 yds, and did a little piece of me die when I held my first metal pack?

Then yes, I've been experienced.

There are pics of Emmanuelle Metalpack on the Internet, I guess you can find some on victors HT Gallery. Btw, it is not porn, it's an erotic movie - there's a difference.

I buy steelbooks because for this kind of collector packaging, many German labels think of some creative way to circumvent the new FSK logo regulations (by doing a flip steelbook, a sticker or a paper sleeve).
Of course, if they just print the logo on the SB, I don't buy it.

Steelbooks are inanimate objects that I feel are unable to possess the human trait or characteristic of "credibility", nor the two key components of credibility, "trustworthiness and expertise".

For me, steelbooks are just a cool form of packaging for Blu-ray discs. Depending on the release, some are more desirable and in demand than others, and the demand can exceed the supply. Not surprising, people collect and enjoy them.

Demand for DVD and HD-DVD steelbooks waned when the formats were replaced by Blu-ray technology.

You can go nuts, obsess, or worry, about anything or just enjoy whatever interests you.

In my personal opinion I believe that the blu-ray steelbook is just running it's natural course of life, the same as the DVD steelbook did during its time.

In the beginning BD steelbook releases were rare and, in general, limited to hit movies. The consumer base, BD player owners, was small and there fore the production runs were quite limited and the BD steelbooks produced were rare and sought after.

As the penetration of BD players in the home grew, and continues to grow, the number and type of movies released in BD steelbook grew and will continue to.

I think the main point of the whole thing is that while the BD steelbook is collectible in the comsumer arena, the "steelbook" was thought of, designed, and produced as a marketing scheme to make money and it has done so, and will continue to do so regardless of the format of the movie inside of it.

I still think it is an awesome way to showcase a film, but even when I started down the OCD completist path almost a year and a half ago, I knew that the limitedness of the BD steelbook would be relatively short-lived.

Cheers
CrashKelly

you are just upset because they have gotten to a point where you cant afford to keep buying all the ones you want, You have said that in numerous threads, I agree its getting expensive. However, its your opinion they are losing credibility!!! So rather than just suck it up, you are crapping on the whole format.

I dont think SteelBooks have lost their "credibility" as they never had it to begin with I dont believe in nor have trust issues with SteelBooks
Quote:
credibility [ˌkrɛdɪˈbɪlɪtɪ]n the quality of being believed or trusted
Now, have SteelBooks lost their original luster or originality, maybe, but like every collectible out there, Its a business and they keep producing more and more. Its like a chick, when you first meet her, you wanna be with her day and night, then after 10 years of marriage you find every reason not to come home

I trust my SteelBooks as they will never cheat on me, I hope they expect the same of me as an owner(Just say no to MetalPack)
