Default A Quiet Place in the Country (1968) – September 26, 2017 – Scream Factory

I wanted to make a thread about this release as there doesn't seem to be one, and I think it is an underrated entry in Scream Factory's catalogue. It's a fantastic, haunting supernatural horror film—very ominous, well-shot, and how can you not enjoy watching Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero onscreen? Any other fans of this film?
_______________________________________

A prominent painter Leonardo (Franco Nero, John Wick: Chapter 2) is plagued by nightmares that include himself and his lover/press agent Flavia (Vanessa Redgrave, The Devils). His agent is convinced that he just needs some rest. So, he rents a villa in the countryside. Between creating a new painting and trying to fix up the dilapidated cottage, Leonardo's nightmares continue but … they are now getting worse. Will the nightmares continue and take the artist into a downward spiral into madness?

Bonus Features
NEW High-Definition Film Transfer
NEW Interview With Actor Franco Nero
NEW Audio Commentary With Film Historian/Author Troy Howarth
Theatrical Trailer

Absolutely! It's probably not for everyone, but to me it's a great flick and one of the most interesting entries in Scream's catalogue.

I can’t believe there wasn’t a thread for this. I’m sure it is a very low seller for SF but I am glad they released it. It needed a region A release and I hope some people have picked it up on sales, maybe this thread can spread some love.

Has a home listened to the audio commentary? Where there different extras on the region 2 dvd from years ago?

Quoting from my own impressions elsewhere on the forums:
Quote:
A Quiet Place in the Country has Franco Nero as an eccentric avant-garde artist who insists on moving into a crumbling villa for his work and grows obsessed with a woman that was killed in it. Vanessa Redgrave is his pragmatic girlfriend-manager who oversees the commercial aspects of his life. The film seems loosely based on Oliver Onions' classic ghost story The Beckoning Fair One and may also be inspired in its look by Jack Clayton's The Innocents. In turn I seem to see inspirations from this film in Pupi Avati's House with the Laughing Windows. While the plot is fairly straight-forward the film is shot with the sort of jump-cuts and visual juxtapositions that Nicholas Roeg became more famous for. It's not done as well as Roeg's acclaimed films but Quiet Place is a solid entry in the arty horror genre.
Shout Factory give a decent looking presentation of the film on blu-ray, with a choice of lossless English and Italian stereo tracks. I chose English because most of the cast appeared to be mouthing their lines in that language. Ennio Morricone's atonal score is served well by the audio. Extras include a half-hour interview with Franco Nero and a commentary from Troy Howarth.

Just saw that Radiance released a new Blu-ray this past fall—flew under my radar. Has anyone picked it up and seen how it compares to the Shout disc? I may double dip for the new extras and revised subtitles. The Shout release has been out of print for awhile now.
