Is there anything released in the German market worth importing to the US? (I have a region free player)

Some eventually go "out of print" and can fetch high prices on eBay. There is a Steelbook discussion thread on here where you can find much more information. In general, since the USD to EUR conversion makes German importing pricey, I'd go only with those titles that have appeared in Germany but have not been announced for a US release. The English Patient BD for example is English-friendly and contains all the extras from the CE DVD release, so if you want that film now, Germany is an option, but a US release is obviously fortchoming. |

The Painted Veil ("Der Bunte Schleier")
A beautiful transfer of a beautiful film. The disc has DTS HD MA 5.1 for both the original English track and a German dubbed track. I'd also add my recommendation for 'Dances With Wolves' (the extended cut). |

Just to be clear, Dances With Wolves only has English subs when Native American language is spoken. And I agree, fantastic transfer.

Just from my personal taste in movies: Silent Hill, Crank, Perfume: Story of a Murder. I don't know how any other releases of Hannibal are, but I thought the German VC-1 and DTS-HR 6.1 disc was pretty good. I was happy I made the purchase.

Up until very recently I too would have said Concorde's German Silent Hill BD, but the newly-released French BD from Metropolitan supercedes it. Director-supervised transfer, better encode (technically at least; I've read the actual visible improvement on the German is pretty small), DTS-MA, new director commentary and making-of featurette, region free and entirely english friendly with *removable* French subs!

HALLOWEEN [2007] and 1408...one of the very limited ways to get the superior theatrical cuts in HD...and they're both in nifty Steelbooks, too. Allegedly, HALLOWEEN II [2009] will follow suit in being the only/one of the precious few places to get the theatrical cut in HD.
