I bought a BDP83 almost a year ago and love it. I used to use the software mod to make it DVD region free but now have the chip inside so I can continue to enjoy firmware updates. I've been in Region 2/ PAL DVD bliss for a while..
Last night I bought a new UK import DVD [Region 2 PAL] and I noticed I only had audio playing back and my Samsung TV just said "Mode not supported" instead of giving me picture. I then tried my other R2 PAL dvds and same deal. It is the same setup I've always had (no firmware updates on any other gear)... The one thing I know I did was after months of not checking updates.. a week or so ago I updated to the latest OPPO beta firmware. Come to think of it, I think after a previous update I had to tinker with something to get the region free back. Anyone have any ideas? I don't think the beta aspect is relevant unless OPPO deliberately added something to their firmware that trumps chipped BDP-83s? |
