Default Question about insulating a garage door

I know this is a strange question for this forum but I know someone out there has done it and has an opinion.

My garage gets very hot in the summer time as the sun beats down on the garage door from 1pm on and because of the heat, my refrigerator in the garage works overtime trying to keep my beer cold.

My question is: Has anyone insulated their garage door using rigid insulation foam sheets or any type of insulation and if so, does it help? Is it worth the cost?

I really don't think just insulating the door will work. You'll have to insulate the whole thing.

I agree with the insulating of the whole thing and not just the door will get the BEST results.

I installed garage doors when I was younger and you can get the 1-2" foam cores to add to your door panels. They obviously don't look as nice as the true insulated doors. They also do not perform as well, but it may or may not help in your case.

How hot exactly is your garage getting?

How hot? I have never measures the temp. But it does get hot when the temperature outside is over 100.

I agree with you both. Doing the door only really won't help that much. My thinking is: it might stay cooler longer but will eventually hit the same temperature insulated or not. Therefore, it would be a waist of money that should be going in to Blus.

AGREED?

I did this to both of our garage doors and it made a noticeable difference with a small investment, the rest of the garage's areas are finished and insulated but the heat coming off of the door in the summer was PUNISHING.

Given the size of the spaces and the amount I purchased I was able to fill 3 of the 4 panels in each row with 4 layers and the 4th one has 3 layers. So 12 panels have 4 layers and 4 panels have 3 layers.
