I'm surprised Kynch didn't post regarding the FNAC SE with a 24-page booklet. I thought that was his "thing"... |

Well, that's the problem, you see. You should have noticed it far in advance on the web site...
![]() I have a feeling someone will beat me to it, but I'll post if it's locked when I get it next week. Something tells me it is, given that it's a new release mainstream move with obvious international sales ahead. Also, I love how the DVDRama review doesn't bother to mention English or Spanish subs, just the French and French SDH ones. It also doesn't mention whether it's a BD-50 or not, though I would hope so as the reviewer gave both PQ and AQ 5 stars. I was intrigued to see that there are three short interviews with Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Ray Cooper on the disc in the extras, and hopefully all of these are in English audio. CONFIRMATION:
Contrary to the previous posts I can confirm that Studio Canal's Le Vilain contains French SDH subtitles ONLY--NOT English, French or Spanish. The disc is a BD-25 with HD and PAL extras. MPEG-4 AVC encoded. |

I just responded to your PM McCrutchy,
The info that I provided above was taken from Canal's own electronic spreadsheet. Since then, they even went on to copy it on their own website: http://www.studiocanaldvd.com/fr/pro...n_en_stock.php Pro-B |

From what I see above, this isn't a Belgian import.
What I would suggest you do is, send a note to Amazon's customer service and include the link to the official listing by Canal, which I left above. You have to explain to them that you made a purchasing decision based on the information provided by the content provider and request a refund (you would have to ship the disc back to France). They will issue you a label and refund the shipping costs as well. Pro-B |

BDInfo also tells me that only a single French type subtitling file is on the disc, however the full report is too large to attach to a post here. I did not run the bitrates yet. Quote:
EDIT: I have received an RMA from Amazon.fr. I have also sent an e-mail to Studio Canal inquiring as to whether the disc is in error, or their listing is inaccurate. Last edited by McCrutchy; 04-05-2010 at 07:12 PM. |

oh great, thanks, I just wasted 40 bucks....I recommend to anyone that says "it's confirmed there are English subtitles" to be 100 % correct so that we don't waste money.
We all know that French websites are consistently inacurrate. The ONLY way to know a French blu-ray/dvd has English subtitles is if: 1. someone posts a photo of the back cover 2. someone has the blu-ray/dvd So how does it work with international returns to Amazon? I print out the printing label, go to the post office, and I have to pay myself over 20 bucks to ship it, and hope that I actually get a refund for not only my original 40 bucks but also the new shipping costs? I don't know about this. Last edited by toddly6666; 04-06-2010 at 02:02 PM. |

The disc would not play in PowerDVD on my Region A BD-RE drive, I received a screen with a compatibility error message. I don't know about Region C right now as it packed again.

Please remember that in this instance, the fault does not lie with anyone on this site. Studio Canal's web site clearly indicates English and Spanish subtitles, and they, being the distributor of the disc, would be the safest ones to trust prior to release. Believe me, I am quite upset with Studio Canal over this, but certainly not with those that came and shared the information they had here. One thing that you might be able to do, only if you chose express shipping, is track the package with the tracking number provided on Amazon.fr, and call up FedEx as soon as the package arrives in the USA and refuse it. That might save you on the return shipping, although if you chose standard delivery, you will not have a tracking number available and unless you can somehow get the delivery guy to take it back as a refused parcel, then what you stated above is what you must do. As regards reinbursment for shipping here is what Amazon.fr e-mailed me regarding that: Quote:

I think that there are new DVD and Blu-ray versions of LE VILAIN that now have English subtitles. On Amazon France, on the back cover of the DVD, it now shows Spanish and English subtitles. Can you or anyone else confirm that the original Studio Canal error was fixed and that both dvd and blu-ray now have English subtitles? |
