Amazon has Dances With Wolves in the UK for $25 shipped.

This title From Warner Home Video is unlocked and will play in the U.S.

Long-time Blu-ray fans should remember that Wolves was announced in the US and then cancelled.

oh crap...i just read that the region-free is the theatrical 180 min cut. the director 234 min cut is region-locked europe

Huh, by looking at the amazon reviews its just the 181 minute version that is on the disc.

I don't care what version it is, I'll be happy to have ANY version of this movie on Blu (even though I would prefer a seamless branching version with both cuts.)

As the OP of this thread, I checked the time on my player and it is the 181-minute version.

Picture quality is very good, a definite improvement over the last DVD. Audio is Dolby TrueHD and is good as well.

Just as a side note, I was watching "Masquerade" on MGM HD this morning (a fairly good film by the way staring Rob Lowe, Meg Tilly and Kim Cattrall) and while listening to the soundtrack, I thought I heard the beginnings of the soundtrack for Dances With Wolves! Sure enough, John Barry wrote the soundtrack for this film in 1988, two years before the release of Dances With Wolves. I wonder if Kevin Costner saw this movie and liked the music so much that he told Barry he wanted the same thing for his film?

Just checked and blu-ray.com is listing the French version as region free and it is currently 14.99 euros and that equates to approximately $21.56.

The german version is also the long version. A bit more expensive and they uses a different cover art.

And unfortunatley it is Region B locked too. Not good for most of us in the US of A

Only problem with French version is it only has French Subs, so when watching the indians speak in native language, Its useless for non French speakers

I ordered this from Amazon.uk and it's definitely worth the import. This is the 181 minute theatrical cut, comes with a True HD soundtrack and is indeed region free. The German release is the 234 minute extended cut and is region B locked. I cannot comment on the French version.

Most of the reviews on .uk revolve around the run time. Evidently when Amazon listed this disc, they showed it as the 234 minute cut, and when the discs arrived, it wasn't, so most of the poor reviews are based on that, not the PQ, AQ or film. Even at 181 minutes, this is plenty long for me. I have the extended version on SD and have never made it through the whole thing.

I thought the disc itself was very good. The AQ is solid throughout, and the house was shaking in the buffalo scene. The PQ was definetly better than the SD, but some scenes looked fabulous but then the next shot was average. Two that stand out were the Indians on horseback overlooking the fort, and the silhouettes of the Pawnee coming to attack at sunrise. This is a 20 year old movie so maybe I'm just expecting too much. It WAS best Picture, though.

There's no telling when this disc will be released in the US, so spend the $25 and import it.
