What is your budget and would prefer a 3D ready set or a non-3D one?

You should check out THIS LG LED LCD. It uses passive glasses instead of shutter glasses. Passive glasses are much cheaper. If you are not married to LCD you should strongly consider THIS Panasonic plasma. It uses shutter glasses. If you don't want 3D you should also look at THIS LG LED LCD.

I can't really say. I don't know what sort of prices you can expect with the early 1080p 3D ready projectors. I would guess that the more affordable ones will still come in between $3000-$4000. I'm just guessing though. I myself went with a 720p 3D projector on the cheap, and I'm happy. I haven't gotten my glasses yet, but I plan to shortly.

To put things in perspective though...I have a Pioneer KRP-500M which has the best picture available yet I rarely use it as more than a computer monitor these days. I do all of my movie watching and game playing on my projector now.

It has a great picture, and even though it isn't as good as the Kuro's picture it makes up for it in size. The picture is actually better than the Panny in my bedroom though which has a very good picture itself. I'm getting about a 94" picture from my throw distance, and I just can't see myself going back to a 50" screen.

My projector was less than $800 shipped. I may upgrade to a 1080p one when the prices get to around a grand which I'm sure is a few years off, so I'm good. My advice is to have both a TV and a projector though. My computer serves as my online media hub and I wouldn't want to use the projector for several hours a day like I do with my Kuro.

I don't really watch TV which is why the Kuro serves as a monitor mostly, but if I did watch a lot of TV then I wouldn't want to do it on the projector since it would eat up lamp life. Just my opinion. Everyone is different, and some people use nothing but a projector. I myself would rather conserve lamp life.

I would recommend Sony KDL-46XBR8 if you can find one it will run around $2000 bought mine at www. onecall.com. Awesome t.v. best that Sony has put out in my opinion. Huge Sony fan, but I went with Panasonic VT25 for 3d t.v. Sony's 3d t.v. wasn't impressive at all. Lot of lighting bleeding into the darks.

Thanks lojack you have been a great help and very informative,I have been looking at this 720p3D projector http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog...4117&scid=4121
and as it will be my first projector I might go cheap and when 1080p3D drops in price I will get one further down the line

Well, I wouldn't go with that particular projector because it only has VGA. It doesn't have HDMI, so its really only suitable for computer gaming. You should take a look at THIS Acer or THIS Optoma. These are much better choices for home theater and they both have HDMI.

If you can find a "Used" Pioneer, particularly an Elite, GET it!

The OP is looking for an LED LCD...not a plasma.

You may want to take a look at THIS Sharp LED. HERE is a review on the US version. This is a very good TV that I've seen several times myself. It has a very uniform screen and no banding issues. Off-axis viewing is extremely good with this set as well.

It also has very good blacks. Color can be made pretty accurate with a little patience. Its not the easiest set to calibrate, but Chad B. got very good results in the end. You can also look at THIS newer version.

Also available is THIS year's Quattron Quad Pixel set from Sharp. This is another excellent set. HERE's Chad B.'s review on the US version. See if you can find these sets in your local stores and see what you think.

I would try and find the Sony XBR 8 or a Sony V5100 series tv. The XBR 8 was one of the best from Sony and since I have their 46V5100 I personally can say that its an excellent HDTV all around.

The XBR8 was great upon release, but nearly every current local dimming LED LCD that is available now is better. Some of the newer edge-lit sets are better as well. Check out Chad B.s reviews of the current crop of sets.

Unfortunately Sony's newest local dimming set took a step back in picture quality according to the reviews. Blacks have gotten better, but the color accuracy has gone down a tad bit. It also exhibits more blooming than the competition. Check Cnet's review on it.

I looked at one of the current Sony edge-lit LEDs recently, and it looked pretty good but not as good as a lot of the competition. The off-axis viewing angles were terrible too. I didn't study it too much since I was in the store for something else, but this is my impression in the short time I messed with it.

Well, the LG LE8500 is one of the best TV's available, so definitely go check that out and see what you think. The Sharp sets are very good, but yes the default color of the Quattron sets gives a bit of a yellow tinge. It can be calibrated out however. Color can be made pretty accurate on these sets with patience.

The LG will be closer to accurate out of the box, and it can be made almost flawless with calibration. The other non-Quattron Sharp sets I suggested don't exhibit yellow, but they are not very accurate out of the box. You will need to spend some time calibrating those models as well, but they can be made fairly accurate.

The Sharps have some of the best viewing angles I've ever seen on an LCD. The LG LE8500 has better than most viewing angles according to reviews, but I don't think it can match the Sharp sets in this area.

As for the panels in the Samsungs...I couldn't tell you. I personally wouldn't even consider those sets. The only Samsungs I would look at is the 8500 LCD and the plasmas. None of the other Samsung LCD's interest me in the least.
