if your ps3 is currently in a cabinet it is probably louder than normal because it is overheating and making the fan work overtime. The PS3 is a hot machine and needs excellent airflow to keep it cool. When i had my ps3 i had it out in the open so it could breathe and it was not noisy at all.

My PS3 Slim is in a cabinet that has doors on the front. I open the doors when I'm using it, not that it gets so hot itself but the Onkyo receiver really heats the cabinet interior if I leave the doors closed. With the doors open I have never heard fan noise from the PS3.

I had the same issue...PS3 was so loud I decided to buy a standalone player. Happy with my purchase.

The PS3 Slim I have never has made a sound, except when playing a video game on a loading screen it sometimes will make a click or two.
The Momitsu BDP-899 doesn't make any sound at all when playing a movie that I ever hear. Only time it makes sound is when it's loading the disc, after it's loaded, it's dead silent. I used to have a SHARP blu-Ray player and that was VERY quiet, as well. I gave it to my brother so I could buy the Momitsu BDP-899. ![]() |

i have had lots of ps3 and an Oppo BD83.. the Oppo does have a fan and it comes on from time to time and makes quite a whir! it only seems to last for 30 seconds though and then goes off again..
the ps3slim isnt bad.. but its noise is difference and can be grating to some.. i actually have a ps3 60gb now launch console.. and have placed it in a temp controlled cabinet in the next room.. very nice solution! its whirring away alright but i cant hear it in the room i watch tv in.. i would say go for a fanless solution if one exists to be safe.. i bought the Oppo for the very same reason as the ps3 was driving me mad.. mainly happy with the decision.. its a great machine.. but it does make a little noise now and again |

Honestly, if you want a quiet player, just make sure to give the player as much ventilation as possible. Head will make the fan come on and the player will make more sounds handling the disc, as well. Just get good ventilation, a fan if you have it inside of a cabinet. You'll notice any player will be loud if you put it somewhere it can't breathe.
