Blu-ray Champion

So I just got the first season set of Jeremiah on DVD and it's in fullscreen. This despite it airing on Showtime in Widescreen. This despite J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) being known for being a pioneer in widescreen on TV even before most people had HD TV's.
What the hell? Has this happened before, where a show was originally broadcast in widescreen, but the dvd sets were put out in fullscreen? There's no excuse for that, ESPECIALLY since Itunes supposedly has the widescreen versions of Season 2. |

Disney did this with Scrubs...
The HD masters are in widesscreen 1.78 while the SD masters are 1.33:1 standard television. Season 8 was the only one released on Blu-ray Disc and is in the original 1.78:1 widescreen while all of the DVDs are presented in 1.33:1 standard. You have to remember that if a studio/distributor is trying to keep costs low for a release, they may use the SD master which could be 1.33:1 standard. |
