Default Are they getting rid of 50'' TVs?

Because this year it seems like all of the TVs are just 55'' and I can barely find 50''. The problem with this is that over half of the TV stands are for the 50 inches.

When shopping for a TV stand you should never care how big of a screen "they" say it's for.. Go by the weight it supports.

Except that from a design/aesthetics standpoint, just as a rug should always be wider than the couch it sits in front of, the TV stand should be at least as wide as the TV.

well 50 inch tvs are usually only plasma sets so that's why you don't see too many

I think like the above poster said 50" are plasma sizes. LCD's are all around that size ie: 46", 47", 52" and even a 48" in there somewhere and probably more than that. The new sizes are changeing for sure though. 50" plasma's are the most popular for sure in that tech. I with I would of kept my 37" panasonic plasma dammit !!! I don't think they are made anymore? ( I haven't looked)

I have noticed, too, that the 50-inch TV size seems to be disappearing...it was a popular size back when I bought my Sony SXRD rear projection set, and it was actually the smallest size you could buy, if I recall correctly, in the series lineup...

But, yeah, I have noticed that there are sizes being offered now that are smaller and larger and all over the place around 50 inches, but not 50 inches (except, as pointed out, some plasmas)...

If it were up to me, 55" would be the smallest size on the market

But guys, some folks don't have the budget, room or seating distance for anything above 50 inches, if not much less...

Yeah, I would love to have a 50+ inch TV in my room, but it's a bedroom! Haha. My room is so small and even my 40" TV looks huge with the distance I'm sitting at. From just looking at it on the wall in person, it looks much bigger just because of how small the room is and how close the viewing distance is.

For those buying for a larger room, I absolutely say the bigger the better. For bedrooms, this isn't quite the case. Too much bigger than what I have now would just be too big for my room. Not to mention when I bought my TV, they were much more expensive than they are now.

I hear you on the bedroom thing; we considered moving our 50" from the living room to the bedroom, but it's just way too big for a bedroom setup. Would I love to have a gigantic 60"+ sized screen in the main room? Sure. But my point to them was that to say that anything under 55 inches shouldn't be sold or built was a bit much...

Had the same problem just two months back. We wanted a 50" LCD to replace an older DLP in the living room that was the same size. 55" was too big, and so we ended up getting a 46" SAMSUNG LED. We passed up a 50" plasma; just coulden't justify using all that juce to watch TV.
