Do most Lionsgate releases have a holographic cover as a first run? - Blu-ray Forum

I've noticed this with a ton of their BDs. Most have a holographic cover like this:

...and a short while later you see this:

Is this the norm for them? I recently purchased the above movie and I have never seen a holographic cover for it, yet when you search for this anywhere online, most stock photos show it. I'm very picky when it comes to my collection, and most Lionsgate releases I have has the holo cover but if the copy I have of The Forbidden Kingdom is the altered cover, I'll end up returning it. Can anyone confirm this and shed some light on how Lionsgate handles their covers?

All of the Lionsgate releases used to have that metallic cover. I would guess that, since they have since gotten away from the uniform design, they're just releasing new stock with non-metallic/uniform covers.

It seems to be hit or miss on which ones they choose to do this. Reservoir Dogs, Total Recall, Van Wilder have the holo cover, but The Running Man never shipped with one.

Do you know when they changed this? And could you confirm if The Forbidden Kingdom originally had the holo cover or was it just a stock photo? All of the actual photos I could dig up online, from early '09, showed the cover without the holographic.

No holographic cover for Forbidden Kingdom, pretty sure I got it on release day.

Well my cover is the same as the second pic above but it is holographic in certain areas. It does not have the bands on the top and bottom (first photo) like most of the early LG releases did.

My copy of Forbidden Kingdom also doesn't have the silver. Got it soon after release, I think. Don't know if I've ever seen one in a store that had the silver.

Did they do the stock art then ship it differently? Literally one photo out of 100s on google image show this holographic cover.

Is it the cover in pic 1 or pic 2? My cover is the 2nd one, it is shiny on the front and back but does NOT have the top and bottom borders.

you'll probably have an insane time finding one. It was THE title where they were switching over from the silver band to standard ones. Only a very very few of them were even printed if I remember correctly (the cover art that is, the discs are the same). The day I snagged one off the shelf was very literally the last time I've ever seen that cover except in a pawn shop once

That's quite all right. If I don't get the original version of a BD/cover then I don't get it at all. I'm that deep.

Is there a list of titles anywhere that has these different covers? Some in my Lionsgate collection have them (American Psycho, Total Recall, Van Wilder, Lord of War, Crank with slip) and I know Reservoir Dogs has the holo cover too.

The Running Man and and Transporter 3 do not, but IIRC I never saw them with one.

I agree though, I'd like to see an actual picture of it too besides a stock photo.
