Default The Colony

I have never heard of this show, until I just read that it is getting a 2nd season. It sounds very interesting but I was hoping that someone out there could explain to me what this is. Is it a reality show, or scripted or what? It has an intriguing premise but I know nothing about it, and I'm sure somebody around here has seen it before. Would love your thoughts or opinions on The Colony.

Groundbreaking Survival Series Produced by Original Productions Premieres Summer 2010

Discovery Channel has greenlit a 10-episode second season of THE COLONY, it was announced today by Clark Bunting, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel and President of Science Channel. Produced for Discovery by Original Productions (a FremantleMedia Company), the series is a controlled experiment that places ordinary people from all walks of life in a simulated post-catastrophic environment to see what it takes to survive and rebuild in a world without electricity, running water, government or outside communication.

“THE COLONY is a groundbreaking, genre-busting series unlike anything else on television today and we are excited to bring it back for season two,” says Bunting. “It combines key Discovery Channel themes of survival, exploration and technology in the most unique way possible, and the characters are imminently relatable — viewers will find themselves asking, ‘What would I do in a similar situation?’”

“Everyone knows I love to tell stories that feature everyday people facing extraordinary challenges, and the Season 2 Colonists will not disappoint. Their personal ingenuity, tenacity and pure grit and guts are unbelievable,” says Thom Beers, CEO and Executive Producer of Original Productions.

Season 2 of THE COLONY will feature a group of volunteers with differing backgrounds, skills and personalities. Throughout the season, they face daunting physical, technological and emotional challenges as they attempt to survive in a world void of all the niceties they’ve ever known. Filmed in Louisiana, the series’ 6½-acre environment has been designed in conjunction with experts in homeland security, engineering and psychology to simulate what the future could look like after a global viral catastrophe. Empty buildings, weedy streets and the backwoods are all the volunteers have to work with as they scavenge essentials for survival from their surroundings while fending off threats such as wild animals and malicious outsiders.

THE COLONY is produced by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company, for Discovery Channel. For Original Productions, executive producers are Thom Beers and Philip Segal; co-executive producers are Jeff Conroy and Jarrod Harlow. For Discovery Channel, Chris Rantamaki is executive producer.

I caught part of it before, and it looked scripted. Maybe this season they're going in a different direction?

Oh hmm, I was kinda hoping it'd turn out to be a real life version of Jericho only done better. Like the people set up in a specific place and tried to rebuild their society with town officials and what not. But I looked up some info and it said season one was in los angeles and season two will be in louisianna so I guess it's not at all what I was hoping for....

It was not a bad show IMO.The people in the Colony is not scripted.People have to build things with the things they find in the area they are permitted to explore.
But the People on the outside trying to get things like water and food from them is scripted and same with the people trying to take over there safe area and steal there food they wont harm the people on the inside.
But the people in the colony dont know that and will do what it takes to keep them safe from others. It was not a bad show.
It just shows what the people will do to survive in a world that has been almost wiped out. With no laws.
Do you give your life saving water and food to others that you dont know,
When you dont have it to for the people in your Colony?
Or do you send the People away and in the group was a mother and a child?
But all in all it was not a bad show,
it just shows would people would do to try to live life after a major event.

Lol, after I asked about this show I never thought of it again and so I've missed all the new episodes as well as the old ones. Still have no idea if I'll like it. But my DVR is loaded with everything from the NFL network currently so I guess I'll just have to wait for dvd.
