Default Dawn of the Dead: 1978 vs. 2004

Dawn of the Dead 1978 vs. Dawn of the Dead 2004

It's time to decide.

There are really only 2 options...don't vote if you haven't seen both.

For the 1978 version, it can be either the:
  • U.S. Theatrical Version (127 minutes)
  • Extended Cut (139 minutes)
  • European Version or Dario Argento cut (118 minutes)

whichever is your favorite.

This poll will Expire in 12 days!

The original. While I really like the remake, there is just no topping the original. Every zombie movie since has been measured against it and has been found wanting.

the remake is decent, (especially considering the state of the horror genre in the past decade) but it doesnt come anywhere near the original. the original is a classic horror movie plain and simple.

Easily the remake. If people look at these as two horror films then its a no brainer in my eyes. I know some people got love for older classics as I do but when a film is better its just better no matter remake or not. Got Em!!

Exactly how I see it as well. I actually prefer the 139 minute cut of this.

I will have to vote for the 1978 version.I do like the remake but without the 78 version there would be no remake. To me dawn of the dead(1978)is the foundation for all of the zombie movies today or maybe i am just a sucker for older horror's.

That's precisely why I went with the original.

See I respect that in all but that to me shouldnt be the reason u vote for the original. U are basically sayin u pick the original because it was made first. What if they came out simultaneously then which one would be better? Got Em!!

The old one definitely! It is one long adventure!! There are so many elements mixed into one movie, that you wíll find new stuff everytime you watch it!

The new one is really good too, but imo it relies too much on "cheap" scares! The intro song/segment in the new one is absolutely amazing though! Gotta say I was really impressed by this movie when comparing it to other remakes! This, and the Last House on the Left remake are probably the two only remakes I really like, besides ofcourse The Thing

2 great movies but I like the old one better if I am to compare them, even though I think they are two entirely different movies!

Same with me. The original is just a better movie plain and simple though I do enjoy the remake.

'78 version for me.

The problem with the remake is that it is a perfect example of style over substance. That's just who Zach Snyder is as a filmmaker. It's very entertaining, but it doesn't make you think.

I could write an entire paper on why the original is better, but I won't get into that here.

Well put. It did have some memorable style. I remember seeing this screen shot and thinking can't wait to see it!

As entertaining as the new one was, the classic out classes it ... to remain the number 1 zombie movie

i didn't base my vote for the 78 version because it was made 1st.To me the 78 feels more realistic in a way maybe because its not so over done like some of the movies that are made today(not sayin that i don"t enjoy today"s horrors)the gray makeup and slow moving zombies just worked out perfectly together and the gory scenes well well done.
