Onkyo is an iconic Japanese audio brand known for its Hi-Fi amplifiers, AV receivers and loudspeakers. Since its founding in Osaka after WWII, the company has pioneered cutting-edge technology, setting the standard for sound quality. Innovation, legendary models and industry influence have all made Onkyo a symbol of high sound. This video gives a full overview of the company's history, its rise and falls, its technological advances and its place in the world of hi-fi. My first CD Player was an Onkyo. It had a stereo Headphone jack, so I listened to the few CDs I had at the time through the player, until I got a Receiver (Not an Onkyo... A Budget Receiver). |

Thank you, Canada. There have been some changes since that picture. I need to make some updates. Mostly, I was able to get my hands on a Wilson Mezzo CS Center so the tweeters and mid range matches my DAW's. I did also get rid of my JL F112 and got into two Ascendo Immersive Audio 16" Subs.

I really love the current line of ARCAM AVPs and AVRs.
I gave the AV41 AVP a listen a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by the sound, particularly with 2-channel music (paired with one of the multi-channel ARCAM amps). Seriously considering getting one as I'm in the market, and right now I can get one for about $2k off msrp (35% off). ![]() Last edited by red_5ive; 03-19-2025 at 04:12 AM. |

Well, a bit of a story behind it. I'd been mulling it over for a while now. I thought it was normal price at $3400 at BB Magnolia as it has been that way for a while. I was on the BB site Friday night and was debating pulling the trigger, but I didn't. I checked again Saturday morning and it went out of stock, then Sunday no longer on the website. It was then that I realized it was marked down because other shops like Crutchfield have it listed at $5250. I panicked and didn't want to miss out on the price, so I stopped in to my local BB Magnolia last night and they said it's just back-ordered and not discontinued or anything. And they didn't know how long the price was good for, so I went ahead and placed an order. ETA mid April.
Can't wait. Looking forward to trying out Dirac Live, which includes full bandwidth implementation. If it all works out and I end up keeping it I'll upgrade to the Dirac Live Bass Control full version. Last edited by red_5ive; 03-24-2025 at 04:36 PM. |

![]() Seriously, that's a good price point, so I don't blame you. I will want to know your thoughts on Dirac....my Denon supports it, but I didn't want to pay for the license. I just don't know if I will here enough of a difference...but you listen to lots of music, so maybe you will. ![]() |

![]() Music definitely influenced the decision. I don't like to run any type of room correction with any processor, especially not with 2 channel so I always opt for direct. But I hear nothing but good about Dirac Live in that regard so I'm looking forward to trying it out. Last edited by red_5ive; 03-24-2025 at 08:21 PM. |

Say what you want , but I had one of these. Yamaha made some beautiful equipment in its day. Definitely old school.

Not quite vintage, but I had Yamaha stereo amps back in the 90s. I wish I'd never sold them. I had the "U" version of the MX-800 stereo amp ![]() And also had the MX-1000 stereo amp ![]() |

You probably won't believe this, but all the switches and rotary pots went bad in mine. I live about a quarter of a mile from the ocean.
I took it in to see what was wrong. The tech showed me a few switches and a pot, and they were covered with green corrosion. Salt air smells great, but its not too kind for electronics, all depends on the winds too, and we get constant east winds right off the ocean. Your right to about more modern ones I still have a Yamaha RX-V757 that I use. Its not too vintage, but its not new either. |
