OH HELL YES!!!
![]() Hoping that Eureka are steering clear of the Pegasus HD master that was used for the HK box set as it was filled with many errors including missing filters, digital title card, wrong audio, too bright and a re-edited ending credits sequence that removed the original rights holders name. But, I'm keeping fingers crossed that with all the HK gurus here on the board that this will get released the way it should be and not the previous HK butchered version. Of course, if anyone working on this title wants to confirm what we are getting and how it was gotten then praise be on them. I just wonder how the 4k master was made, from what source. Did it come from a stored print from France as rumored and actually included Ronnie Yu`s involvement? Otherwise, if Eureka got a 4k master from Pegasus then they would have to do some work to restore it the way it was meant to be seen. Ronnie Yu was very specific to the great lengths him and Peter Pau went to to make that film the way they intended. Pegasus just pooped all over it with their HD remaster from a few years ago. I will be pre-ordering tomorrow for an October release. Just hoping there's no further complications then to keep this title out of my grasp. Though, I had ordered the French release, it never arrived! Pre-ordered it at the wrong time as by the time it was released, Covid 19 was upon us and international mail was slowed to a stop! Maybe it will show up someday, but, now, we have this release to look forward to; and it has English subs. SPECIAL FEATURES Limited Edition O-Card slipcase featuring new artwork by Darren Wheeling [2000 copies] 1080p presentation on Blu-ray from a stunning new 4K restoration Cantonese audio, available in original mono and restored 5.1 presentations Optional English and Mandarin audio tracks Newly translated English subtitles Brand new feature length audio commentary by Asian film expert Frank Djeng (NY Asian Film Festival) Audio commentary with director Ronny Yu Brand new interview with director Ronny Yu Archival “making of” featurette Limited Edition collector’s booklet featuring new writing by James Oliver [2000 copies] |

Way less special effects but more of a tragic love story told with immense style and mood, great acting, melancholic music, fantastic action scenes and a great moody atmospheric storyline, you won't be disappointed my friend.

It is one of the greatest swordplay-fantasy movies ever to come out of Hong Kong. The cinematography is so beautiful you could make a poster out of almost every shot.

I love the Hong Kong wuxia and fantasy films from that period, before they switched to CGI overload for the special effects. I'd love to have them all in my collection. Hopefully, the Chinese Ghost Story trilogy, Green Snake, Butterfly Sword, etc. are also on the horizon.

Bride with White Hair is one of HK's golden era finest releases. As noted, it's solid, artistic work with some pretty transgressive plotting and the most amazing photography by one of HK's greatest cinematographers, Peter Pau. He went on to do the beautiful Phantom Lover which is gorgeous and he even reunited with Ronny Yu to make Bride of Chucky to rise above its pulpy roots. In my opinion, that's the best of the movies in that particular franchise.

I don't know as my copy has never arrived. It got stopped somewhere probably due to Covid. But, supposedly, the French release uses a new master and not the one used for the HK release. And, it doesn't seem that anyone that has the French edition has supplied screenshots are reported any issues with the release. I really would have liked to received my copy and maybe it shall arrive someday. Who knows? I was hoping we could get some details about where Eureka`s 4k master came from. That would really clear up the issue and hopefully relieve some stress regarding what we will actually be getting. |
