France Rayman Legends - DEMO OUT NOW! Full game released from August 30th

Rayman Legends was originally billed as a Wii U exclusive, but it’s now coming to PS3 and Xbox 360, Ubisoft has confirmed.

In a statement sent to VG247, Ubisoft confirmed the game would hit both formats at some point in September. Developer of the Wii U version Ubisoft Montpellier is also creating the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions.

“We heard from many Xbox & Playstation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman officer. ”We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game.”

It comes as the Wii U edition has been delayed a few times already.

Awesome news! Was really bummed when I heard it was going to be Wii U only, so this is very exciting! I platinum'd the first game and loved it!

Thanks for this. Yet another current-gen game to look forward to. Maybe they'll put it out on the PS4 as well? One could hope haha

Sweet! I got Rayman Origins on PC for sale and been spending my free time on it. It's a really amazing game, probably might played it a few times more too. Might pay full price for it this time (but my frugality may get the best of me ).

Fantastic news! It was one of the few titles that made me want a we.

Not all that shocking, I kind of assumed it would be timed exclusive anyways unless it had some big Wii U gimmick (still might, but probably easily interchangeable with some traditional gameplay function on the PS3)

4K resolution and stereoscopic 1080p options!

Even though Origins on PC officially supported higher resolutions, I'm not sure if the art assets were much clearer.

Nice, saving up for the ps4 and neXtbox has made me a little ambivalent about the WiiU, but I did really want this game.

Awesome, so glad this is hitting the PS3.

I'm in the same boat, knowing the PS4 is coming...couple with lack of exclusive games (this was a big one for me) on the WiiU has made me not really care about getting one.

I'll be happy to pick this up on PS3 or PS Vita, but there is a part of me that is a little disappointed that now I'll have even less of a reason to ever boot up my Wii U again.

I hope most of the music is original like Origins'. Wasn't too keen on the Eye of the Tiger trailer, even though it's done well, I prefer the original stuff. Especially the Mexican-hot theme levels in Origins.

I'll probably go PS3 first again. If its as great as Origins I may double dip.

The Vita version of Origins was a bit easier thanks to the touchscreen bubble pop ability so it's a more relaxing second play through.

Still hoping for a PS4 version with:

No load times, they're short and nicely covered in Origins but bring back cart-speed loading!
1080p60 Stereoscopic 3D / 4K30, 60 if HDMI bandwidth is there
High quality AA for the occasional 3D models
Full-res artwork, even where there's loads of translucent layers. Go INSANE with the number of reactive fish in underwater sections

So, dumb question, but will the PS3 version have less stuff than the Wii U one because a bunch of levels involve using the wii u tablet thing?

I really hope the 3D models don't affect performance.

That's a costume I would actually use. It'd be nice if Rayman had a costume themed for each 'land' in the game actually.

Delighted this is coming to the Vita. Rayman Origins worked really well on the Vita.

Rayman Origins, incidentally, is free to download on the Vita for PS+ subscribers in 8 days time.

Quick summary of information confirmed (translated from french):

- Xbox 360/PS3 versions do not provide any form of touch gameplay (no options to use Vita or Smartglass as a second screen). Murphy is mapped to a single button that automatically triggers his actions.

- Touch levels design has been completely re-worked from Wii U/Vita version to match with the other consoles. The purpose was to obtain the same kind of difficulty/rythm/balance.

- The overall difficulty has been toned down compared to Rayman Origins, leaving more space for a "progressive" evolution. They however focused on implementing a lot of secrets and challenges to satisfy gamers looking for more while avoiding frustration for the others.

- The Preview Demo was including a new sub-aquatic level, with a more "open" structure. The level included a central hub to return to, with several switches to activate around the open level to free the way to continue.

- The extra-time given by the infamous delay allowed them to work on an "Invasion" version of the existing levels. These are completely re-worked versions of the levels ("à la" Super Mario 3D Land extra levels) including Time-attack challenges.

- Christophe Héral, who was in charge of Rayman Origins' music, is back for Rayman Legends "with a surprise" for those completing the game at 100% (excellent news, I LOVED Rayman Origins soundtrack)

- PS Vita Version is identical to Wii U version in terms of gameplay (including touch levels). It even adds 5 exclusives "touch" levels. Performance-wise, the Vita version tested ran smoothly but with some dips below 60 FPS (whereas Wii U was rock-solid 60 FPS).

- There is no over-arching scenario that builds a logic to the entire game. These are stand-alone "universes" that are pure context excuses for the fun, gameplay and art. Hence the nice quote from Michel Ancel in the title :

Let's hope they can get the Vita version on par with the others soon enough.

Default Rayman Legends bonus: 40 levels from Rayman Origins, 'Kung Foot' soccer spinoff

According to Ubisoft designer and Rayman rein-holder Michel Ancel, the bonus Rayman Origins levels are immediately accessible and optional to the completion of Rayman Legends. The selection of stages, including a few devious Tricky Treasure runs, has been graphically updated to suit the style of Legends.

Ancel and the creative team are also tossing in "Kung Foot," a soccer-themed minigame that supports up to four local players (five if you're on Wii U). Controlling any of the available Rayman characters, players jump around, kick, punch and block a bouncing soccer ball wildly as they attempt to get it through the opposing goal. Kung Foot is pitched as a funny, aimless party game for friends too tired for anything serious – or, in the case of Ancel's team, for developers who just finished making Rayman Origins. It was a small in-engine game made just for the office at the time, but now it's being included with Rayman Legends.

Rayman Legends is due on Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on September 3.
