I've been looking into getting a blu-ray player for awhile now but haven't jumped on it because of the $125-$175 price point. That and I don't watch movies that often.
Rescently I bought a few classic games that I used to play for the collector value in it (NES, N64, GBA, and of course PS2). The PS2 game I bought was Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy (even though I played San Andreas on Xbox primarily). I cannot play the N64 games, but can the GBA and NES (via GBA remakes) games on my GBA SP. And of course, I no longer have a PS2 so can't play the GTA Trilogy (although I kind of want to). Currently I am an Xbox 360 gamer and haven't found any PS3 exclusives that interest me at all enough to become multi-platform until the rescent rumor of a Splinter Cell Trilogy HD remake akin to the God of War HD remake. Its probably the one thing I've wanted more than anything. Of course, it would be the game that hooked me to Xbox LIVE is a PS3 exclusive, thanks Ubisoft. Well, I've been crunching the numbers. A blu-ray player about $150, Slim PS2 about $100, and a Slim PS3 $300. Spnding even $400 on a PS2 & PS3 is way too expensive, even if SC Trilogy is the only PS3 game I ever get. I've been looking up some info on the different PS3 Hardware generations. To those long time PS3 owners out there, I seek your assistance. Is it worth it for me to spend $200 to close to $300 on Ebay for a 4 year old 60GB PlayStation 3 (CECHA) that has the built in Wi-Fi, Hardware based emulation (for full PS2 backwards compatibility), but 3 times the power consumption? Does it lack certain features that the new Slims have? What is the average reliability of the original models at this point since they are going on 4 years old? Can I take out the 60GB HDD and put in a larger HDD on the original models? I appreciate all help and sorry about the rambling in my post, lol. |
