Default Fan Sues Mets, MLB Over Broken Bat

"A Mets fan who says a flying piece of a broken baseball bat shattered his face is suing the team and Major League Baseball.

James G. Falzon's lawsuits say the severed barrel of a maple bat became "a dangerous projectile" and broke bones in his face during an August 2007 Braves game at Shea Stadium.

Falzon says the team, the league and Rawlings-brand bat maker the Jarden Corp. should have done more to protect fans from break-prone maple bats."

So is this guy dumb or just money hungry? I'm not saying when you go to a baseball game that you put your life in danger but there are some risks. Obviously you may be hit directly or indirectly with foul balls/drunken fights/ and broken or whole bats. I remember watching a story on youtube of how 10 years ago a kid was hit in the eye with a foul ball and not only did he almost go blind but he almost died. That family never sued. Sporting events can only be so protective for it's spectators but I think this guy may be going a little bit too far saying the MLB should have done something more to protect the fans.

He probably just wants MLB to pay the plastic surgeon.

They let you know before the game that you should pay attention because foul balls, etc....... may come your way. Also why wait so long.

Someone should tell him to read the back of his ticket.

I was taught coffee was "HOT" when I was a kid, but someone sued McDonald's because the cup didnt say Hot

Its all about the money anymore and lawyers persuade clients to do this. You can sue anybody for anything nowadays....Luckily i am not one of those guys.

(We have a local guy here in Winchester suing Verizon for 1 million dollars because his number was misprinted as Comcast's, Yea...I said the same thing, Change your number!!)
http://www.winchesterstar.com/articl...ads_to_lawsuit

his license plate says "I SUE"

This guy is going overboard w/this…..

On a side note related to jw’s comment, here @ work when we make outbound phone calls, the caller id displays someone’s private cell #!!!

So people always try to call it back and get the same person over and over and over…..she’s getting pretty pissed I guess!!

Nearly every ballpark I've been to has had signs posted all over the stadium basically saying if you get hit by objects from the field accidentally the team and ballpark cannot be held responsible. This guy is going to have a hard time winning this one.

Give me a ****ing break, there are multiple warnings in the ballpark and on your ticket to pay attention as you may get struck by an object. What are these ballparks supposed to do, put huge nettings all around the park? Greedy idiot.

Wow that's a bit harsh, how would you feel if a bat splintered and took your face apart?

Just read this little gem:

Quote:
Baseball bats have traditionally been made from ash trees, but maple bats have gained ground in recent years, particularly after Barry Bonds used them to break Mark McGwire's single-season home run record in 2001 and Hank Aaron's career home run record in 2007.
Somehow I don't think the bats were the important part of the equation.

Not only that, it's repeated before and during the games over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
