I thought this would be an interesting subject to bring up since members from time to time on this forum do refer to some movies as being dated and I thought it'd be great to see what movies people here thought are a bit dated.
![]() As you can tell by the title you can't choose films prior to 1970, I decided to do this since there are arguably a number of movies before then that could be classed as 'dated' very easily, especially with the likes of the 1950s B-Movies, and I thought if there wasn't a date in the title then the thread could become overrun with 1950s sci-fi B-Movies, and that would be a bit repetitive. ![]() I also came to the conclusion that it was roughly in the 1970s where the modern-day Hollywood blockbusters were established, and I was curious to see which of these sorts of movies people here thought aren't quite as impressive as they were when they originally came out. ![]() So, which movies after 1970 do you think are dated by todays standards? ![]() |

Naw the remake is way superior sorry! I mean the story is still cool in the original but the graphics and atmosphere in the film is super dated! I easily prefer the remake at this point and this is comin from someone that loved the original growing up! Got Em!!

Disaster films of the 70s:
Airport '75, Airport '77, The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, and Earthquake (in Sensurround!), to name the ones I've seen. These films have earned a reputation as camp these days. Cheap, cheesy 80s sci-fi fantasy films: Krull, Lifeforce, Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn (in 3-D!), Masters of the Universe, Dreamscape (I like this one, though) and The Blob remake. P.E. -- Politically embarrassing: Rambo III (saving the Afghan Mujahideen didn't work out so well for the USA, now did it?), and Red Dawn (this movie was already dated in the 80s, with its 1950s style Commie paranoia). Disco is dead: Saturday Night Fever, Thank God it's Friday, Can't Stop the Music, and Xanadu. For extra special measure, throw in other musical genres and dances, like Flashdance, Fame, and Breakin'. |

good example. I still like the movie, but it's so hilarious when Billy's cellphone drops on the floor and Sidney immediately thinks he is the killer lol.

Logan's Run, I rented the BD just after it was released. Only good part of that film is Jenny Agutter. Its hard to believe it was made only a year before Star Wars. I heard theres a remake in the works however.
The Warriors, dated but still awesome. Oh and the most dated Bond film "Live and Let Die". It just reeks of the 70's. Last edited by lobosrul; 08-18-2010 at 02:47 PM. |

I feel the new one just lose too much, it's just dark, edgy with tons of CGI. I don't think they did a good job in trying to update this story. I always felt the innocence, cheese and camp of the original was what made it so fun to watch. I really did not had much fun with the new version as much as I was hoping to like it. It just felt long. I will rent it very soon to give it another watch but I doubt very much this new version will ever make it's way into my collection, just not fun enough for me.

It's funny as how very few of the movies I love post 1970 feel out dated to me even now, even more so for the 80's movie for which of course I get more love since I was a teen and in college by the mid 80's. All of the movies I love then, I still love now even if when you stop and be honest, some of them truly have not age well ![]() |
