Default Piranha 3D

This movie wasn't released in 2D in theaters, so should I expect a 2D release on BD (it was originally filmed in 2D and converted to 3D after it was filmed, so I assume a 2D release is possible)?

I saw it in 2D...it was released in 2D in theaters...

I expect it to be 2D, maybe the fake 3D crap they put in The Final Destination, Coraline, and My Bloody Valentine. Maybe a 3D Blu-Ray in the future.

There is 2D prints of the movie. I think more of the smaller theaters are the ones showing it. My big 20 screen Cinemark near me only have 3D but the crappy 8 screen Marquee has it in 2D. So you expect a copy that will have both 2D and 3D or even one with only 2D but there will not be one with only 3D.

Did anyone see it yet? If so what are your thoughts. From the promos it didn't look too bad.

I actually liked it a lot, but only see it if you have a strong stomach. I was very pleased, and I thought the ending fit it nicely. The 3D was pretty solid too.

That's not 100% true. A very popular and large theater 5 minutes from me is playing in both 2D and 3D. A couple big theaters near me only play it in 3D and some only play it in 2D. Depends where you go, I guess.

I enjoyed it. Great gore level.
I saw more boobs, *****, and ass than I would of liked to though..haha
I knew there was going to be a lot of nudity, but too much female nudity for my liking.

However, when the gore starts going, it's AWESOME!!!

I'm seeing it again soon since my friend wants to go with me.

Yeah, I went in expecting a lot of nudity, considering it takes place during spring break, but I'm surprised that underwater ballerina scene was allowed. There were actually a couple of kids in the theater I saw it in. I don't understand what parents can bring their children to see this.

I completely agree. I was shocked though that the MPAA allowed this to be R since they always have a stick up their asses with 99% of horror indie movies. They go absolutely crazy over a simple sex scene in some movies and then this movie has that scene, full frontals, and
[Show spoiler]a severed penis floating in the lake, eaten by a piranha, and then spit out.

From what I've been reading here, this sounds very entertaining. I'm going to go see it tomorrow. I thought it was supposed to have a crap 3D job done on it. And I wasn't expecting it to be too good a movie either. But now I'm looking forward to checking it out. I won't be doing any complaining about nude females in 3D either. I'll report back tomorrow.

One question. Since this is a horror movie, are they showing the 3D trailer for Resident Evil? I hope they are. I half want to go just to see that.

I didn't see the 3D, but my friend did. He said that it's decent for post conversion. That the CG fish look decent and stuff has depth, but not a lot will jump out at you. Said it's a LOT better than the other post-converted movies such as Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans.

The reason I was complaining about nude females throughout is probably because I'd prefer nude males throughout. Haha. I knew that wouldn't happen at all, though.

In the 2D version there was a trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife, so I'm guessing it will be there for the 3D version, as well.

Good to hear. Thank you.

And thanks for the info on the rest of the movie. I'll be going into it with a bit more hope now.

Well in know it's not true for everyone everywhere thats just how it is here. This is the first 3D movie i have seen my Cinemark carry only the 3D version of. I am not a fan of 3D and i hate that Marquee so i guess i am waiting till Blu for it.

Loved it. 5/5 on the fun scale. I loved the gore in this. Whoever did the F/X had to work overtime. Of course going back to Aja's other movies- Haute Tension and Hills have Eyes. Piranha was his 2nd goriest movie.
I feel for you about all the nekkid women and the only thing you got for male nudity was
[Show spoiler]mutilated, severed, regurgitated pinis

No problem.
Just keep in mind to switch your mind off when walking into the movie. It's just a fun summer blast and that should be kept in mind throughout it.

I enjoyed the 2D version and I actually boycott 3D because of them making it more expensive and all that. I understand a couple bucks more expensive for the glasses and all that, but now they're around $5 more expensive!!!

I really did have a great time in the theatre watching this though. The gore was awesome.

Yeah, I wish horror showed some male nudity WITH the female nudity to appeal to all audiences, but they think that only straight guys watch horror movies.
It sucks...but oh well...this movie was a gory blast and fun as hell.

It just depends on what theater you go to and what time of day. I've seen a lot of people on here complaining about $13.00 prices for 3D. I've gone to nearly every 3D movie since Meet The Robinsons. I've only paid over $10.00 one time. That was for Toy Story 3D. I went on the spur of the moment on a Friday night. I had actually forgotten that it cost more at that time. Otherwise I would have just waited. It only cost me $8.00 to see Piranha 3D today. And that was at the more expensive of the two theaters I go to.

As far as the movie goes, it was great. A lot of fun. But the 3D was pretty terrible. It was mentioned in the 3D smackdown thread that the 3D looked about the same as the 2D to 3D conversion on the Samsung TVs. I have to agree. I could watch anything on my TV and get about the same quality 3D as this movie. There were moments when it looked Ok, but it's the same with the Samsung conversion. It did help a little that it was on a giant screen. There was also a lot of blurring that I've not seen on any of the new generation of 3D movies. It's too bad, this movie could have been so cool if it had been done with real 3D.

On the bright side. There were three awesome 3D trailers before the movie.

#1. Resident Evil Afterlife looked spectacular. I can hardly wait to see that next month. And I'm even more excited to get it on Blu-ray 3D a few months later.

#2. Saw 3D. They didn't really show a lot of it, but from what they showed it looked really cool.

#3. Tron 3D. Wow, now that just looks darn right beautiful in 3D. It's a longer wait, so I try not to think about it much. But I sure hope it's going to have a day to date Blu-ray 3D release like Resident Evil.

As far as I'm concerned. Just getting to see those trailers in 3D alone was worth my $8.00. I'm psyched.
