Default Do Steelbooks get sold out and that's it?

Hey guys new to steelbooks and was wondering if you can still go to Future shop and buy steelbooks that have been released long time ago? or are they gone once they sell out and no more are made?

I was at my local future shop and almost bought LOTR Steelbook collection. I think I'm gonna go back tomorrow and buy it. they only had 2 left. I tried to look for other steelbooks but the only other I saw was clash of the Titans.

As far as I'm aware, they're kind of like book printings. A run is ordered, and once they're sold out, that's it. Unless another run is ordered, which I don't think really happens. The run can be big or small, depending on the store, title or whatever. I think with FutureShop, they do sell out pretty quickly and are no longer available online after quite a short period, so they might have some available in store if you're lucky. Their LOTR steel is really sexy though, way better than LOTR steels released elsewhere.

Most Steelbooks sell out pretty fast. not all but most. Especially if your talking about ones that were released quite awhile back

I've noticed that here in Winnipeg it is only the High-Run movies that get sold out fast.

I was at one FutureShop today and they still had around 10 copies of the Clash of the Titans SteelBook, and I swear I saw one Inglourious Basterds and two Public Enemies.

i think those days are gone when a blu ray steelbook would be sold out.

As its getting more common, its being produced in abundant amounts.

From what was seen happening with TDK FS SB (lol so many acronyms) is that older SB are making an appearance. From what I've noticed around my local FS is that yes some SB are disappearing but not from sales. Trust me when I say that I've seen a lot of SB before but when I go to find them, they all disappear.

For example, I can't find ANY Pixar SB anymore but I can find a lot of Pirates. Before though, at least 2-3 weeks, there were abundant supply of each Pixar movie. Now what can account for all of them disappearing? For sure not sales, even people can tell you how common some Iron Packs were but suddenly gone.

So my theory is that once they reach an "expiry" date, they get packed up and shipped back to the distributors. What the distributors do with them is up to them and not FS. Which accounts for "lost" SB being found and sold online through Axelmusic.

For sure the hotter titles do sell out but not all locations are visited equally by SB hunters. So there are bound to be some stores in the boonies that still have some of the "rare" SB but since they never sold, they would have gotten packed up and shipped back to the distributors.

So to answer you question, yes and no. Even though they get sold out locally, doesn't mean some stock aren't floating outside of the system.

Okay I just bought my first Steelbook today. I went back and got that LOTR jumbo steelbook I saw at Future Shop.

Wife wasn't happy, but man is it ever nice lol

I'm on the lookout for Steelbooks now. They have a few still in store like POTC Dead man chest, Bugs Life, and a lot of Clash of the Titans.

next week I will pick up POTC Dead man's Chest and looks like I gotta re-buy all the Disney/pixar titles now in steelbook! damn it

1~5% of the Steelbooks gets sold out. After this we tag it as OOP/OOS and keep circulating among ourselves.

I would assume the first wave of steelbooks for a certain title from a store is just that. Once they are sold out if it sold well enough I suppose a store could order more made, but it's highly unlikely. Basically they all go OOP and are available usually in Amaray only after that. I have always viewed steelbooks as sort of a promo oppurtunity for the DVD or Blu-ray collector, get it while it's in the metal packaging or else settle for the Amaray case later. I think most stores do this to make it a must have knowing they probably won't make more later.

A poster said certain steelbooks in Germany get remade, that is true but all of them will eventually be discontinued and available in Amaray only. Steelbooks probably cost alot more to ship, the weight of them is larger than Amaray cases. I really can't see a studio keep reprinting a title in steelbook packaging unless they are turning a crazy profit. Usually a one time thing to lure the collector or fan in and than it's OOP. However German or other studios worldwide can and do order another large batch reprinted from Scanava if the title is selling well or is in high demand, they do all eventually go OOP.
