It really saddens me that this is in all probability (let's not kid ourselves, it's 100%) going to have significantly worse 3D than the now six-year-old A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures

Saw the 3D trailer to Finding Dory, before the solid, high medium to strong 3D of Pixar's The Good Dinosaur (believe it) . Finding Dory's 3D is definitely at least medium to high medium, though the trailer didn't reveal too much, just a brief medium ranged shot of Nemo, his father and Dory talking, with Dory sleepwalking (swimming), so not a lot of opportunities to see the range of 3D potential, but it didn't disappoint me and wasn't mild 3D as we'd expect with Pixar.

So here's hoping.

After seeing The Good Dinosaur's 3D and for the first time with Pixar, being impressed with the 3D, Finding Nemo may continue this new change of stronger 3D from Pixar. Finally.

I realize my buying a copy doesn't mean anything in the long view, but I always order these right away, "doing my part" to show that there is a demand for 3D Blu.

Good point to let the studio know there are 3D fans willing to pre order.

Finding Dory got nice reviews, though the 3D looks medium most of the way in the trailer. Not sure if I'll get a chance to see it in 3D theaters this weekend with Father's Day and all.

hate to say it, but the 3D to me looked 'medium' to me - some scenes are so dark or set in murky water pop out or even layering is kept to a minimum - a couple of scenes looked very good, but it never has or achieves the conversion job for 'Monsters Inc' which to me is the best 3D Pixar feature.

Thanks Dubstar for the 3D report.
How did you like the movie? Much like the first one?

__________
I was hoping the 3D would be a bit stronger as I saw in Good Dinosaur, but they have different teams working on different movies, with different 3D goals. Oh well. Medium is good and better than mild 3D.

I liked the movie a lot, it's great to see the characters again, as 'Nemo' is in my top three favorite Pixar movies - so I guess that makes me a little biased in my overall opinion of the movie. Great use of humor and emotion, at one point near the end I welled up a little. Beautiful soundtrack. I think my only quip is with the non-stop multiple endings it's very Spielbergian - and then this happens, and then this... 'Inside Out' felt way more restrained in this respect - don't get me wrong, I liked the movie (I'll see it at least two more times), I thought they could have dialed it down a tad. Oh and stay til the bitter end there's a great post credit scene.

What a dilemma.
Wife & I are gonna go check this out, shortly.

I wanna see it in an IMAX 2D, but it's only playing in 3D at the close IMAX.
I guess we'll have to watch it in 3D. Hate to sound negative about it, but Finding Nemo, for me at least, is one of the weakest 3D titles I've ever seen.
I can set my TV up to play at 60Hz with motion interpolation on and that makes the 2D disc more 3D than the actual 3D disc looks.

Sad. Wish Disney would make their 3D stronger so that it's actually worth the extra money.

I don't really want to diss Pixar, but their 3D team are NOT in the same league as the folks over at Dreamworks Animation, Laika likewise the 3D toggles between great to just okay results.

on a side note, the new trailers for 'The Secret of Lives of Pets' is stunning in it's 3D - two scenes notably had me wince as two creatures lunge directly in your face.

Me too. I remember when I saw TMNT 2, some kids shouted woah when the snake popped out.

I agree that to make the 3D so tame that it's barely noticeable is definitely missing the point of 3D, even if it's for the sake of not straining anyone's eyes. One of Pixar's recent productions, The Good Dinosaur, has a nice range of high medium, sometimes strong and medium 3D layers. Very unexpected for Pixar.
Finding Dory 3D appears to have medium 3D layers instead of mild, which would be an improvement over Finding Nemo's 3D.

Yeah, that had two strong 3D pop outs that actually pop way out of the screen, as the creature snaps its teeth.

Wife & I enjoyed Finding Dory.

Honestly, we both took our glasses off for most of the movie's run time because there was usually no discernible difference between having them on or off.
On occasion, there were slightly blurry images with extremely minimal separation.
I can see why a lot of folks are turned off by paying extra charges to see 3D when it is as weak as this.

It went from Very Strong 3D for the IMAX countdown sequence before the movie.
To Strong 3D for the Piper short. (Very beautiful surprise there)
To "Where did the 3D go?" for the main feature.

Interesting. I wonder if it had anything to do with the size of the IMAX screen? Clearly the 3D version of this film was not rendered with IMAX in mind. I'm seeing it tonight in a normal theater, so I'll report back later.

We were thinking of just seeing it in a normal theater.
Yeah, I'll be interested to hear how your experience is.
I'm a little harsh toward Disney because I don't like the way they handle many aspects involving 3D at theaters and Blu-ray releases.

I just feel like this is a lost opportunity to really showcase beautiful underwater imagery. It doesn't have to necessarily duplicate the 3D of A Turtle's Tale to be good, but at least give us the feeling of depth and distance to a higher degree.
