Default Paramount/Dreamworks deal was "sweetning"

This is coming directly from the IFA conference,

Maybe I missunderstood that, but wasn't that question directed at the Blu-Ray people? As in, they recieved sweeteners?

things to sweeten the deal.

either no one wants to answer, or no one has had any deal sweeteners.

Obviously everybodys deal is being 'sweetened' in one way or another, thats what makes big business do business with eathother.

Everyone got perks

No one will talk about them

But they certainly didn't get anything even CLOSE to a $150 million payoff

agreed.

you'd have to be nuts to deny that some kind of incentives were involved, but the key thing to note is that no one's raised an eyebrow at the BD side's incentives (i.e. they certainly seem to be nothing out of the ordinary).

^^^ The issue is whether those incentives were to support Blu-ray or deny HD DVD support.

Paramount got paid to stop supporting Blu-ray. They already supported HD DVD.

Sure wish people would pay me to support the stuff I already support.

I think in Fox's case, BD+ with it's added content protection was all incentive their studio was looking for.

I think the fact that some of the HD DVD titles were cracked earlier has strengthened the resolve of Blu-ray exclusive studios to remain on Blu-ray and for Warner to not put all their eggs in one basket.
