Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams Baseball Drama TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE Lands September 28th
A new feature film team-up for director Robert Lorenz (Million Dollar Baby) and Clint Eastwood now has a theatrical landing date. The baseball drama, also starring Amy Adams, will debut in theaters on September 28th. Tentatively titled Trouble with the Curve, the Warner Bros. movie follows an ailing talent scout (Eastwood) who takes his daughter (Adams) on one last recruiting trip. Eastwood and Lorenz have teamed up on numerous movies over the years, including Blood Work, Mystic River and J. Edgar, with Lorenz as Eastwood’s producing partner and assistant director. Trouble with the Curve, in a screenplay by Randy Brown, will be Lorenz’s first feature as a director.
Adams had recently been confirmed for the role opposite Eastwood, although Sandra Bullock was previously in talks for the part. More casting discussions are underway for Trouble with the Curve as Joe Massingill and Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) are reportedly in talks. Massingill, a Georgia-native, may be eyed for his first major role as an Atlanta baseball player being scouted by Eastwood’s character. Lillard is expected to play a fellow scout. Check out all of our previous coverage on Trouble with the Curve here.
Competition for Eastwood’s Trouble with the Curve currently looks like Sony’s sci-fi pic Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt; the Oliver Stone-directed Universal thriller Savages starring Blake Lively and Benicio Del Toro; and Fox’s Won’t Back Down, starring Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The opening of the Warner Bros. IMAX film To the Arctic 3D has also been slated for April 20th.
Justin Timberlake Joins Clint Eastwood in Baseball Drama TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE
At this point, it’s pretty safe to say that Justin Timberlake won’t be returning to the music world anytime soon. After his breakout performance in The Social Network, Timberlake landed the co-lead in Joel and Ethan Coen’s folk music period pic Inside Llewyn Davis, and now he’s set to co-star with none other than Clint Eastwood. The actor is in negotiations to star alongside the Unforgiven actor in the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve. The film marks the directorial debut of Eastwood’s producing partner Robert Lorenz and centers on an ailing baseball scout who takes his daughter on one last recruiting trip.
Amy Adams is onboard as Eastwood’s daughter and Variety reports that Timberlake will play Johnny Flanagan, “a former pitcher who now works as a baseball scout for the New York Yankees.” Flanagan is set up as a potential love interest for Adams’ character. Fingers crossed we get a scene where grizzled badass Eastwood tells Timberlake stay away from his daughter. And his lawn. Trouble with the Curve opens September 28th.
Clint Eastwood has chosen to step from behind the camera again to appear in his friend Robert Lorenz’s directorial debut Trouble With the Curve. In the film Eastwood will play a baseball scout with bad eyes who is taking a road trip to with his daughter to see about a new prospect.
Since Eastwood signed on the rest of the cast has been falling into place. Amy Adams is on deck to play his daughter, and I recently reported Justin Timberlake has signed on to play a rival recruiter. Now Variety tells us that Eastwood’s real life son Scott will also appear.
Young Eastwood will play “Billy Clark, a slumping minor league player who the protag discovered and still has faith in.” Its said Scott had to audition for the role. Normally I would make some wise ass comment about how I’m sure it was just a show, however, Clint strikes me as the type if dad who makes his kids earn their way. Then again Eastwood previously cast his son in Flags of Our Fathers and Gran Torino. So, I could always be dead wrong.
Trouble With the Curve is set for a September 28 release.
